The world has changed dramatically since and new challenges demand new ideas. Yet there are timeless lessons from 1997. Heed them and Labour governments can be part of our future too.

1) Make the case that better is possible through Labour - not just that the Tories are awful.

The latter may be true more than ever but we will only win by putting forward an optimistic vision for the country and a credible plan to achieve it.

Bloodshed in Ukraine won’t end until the Russian people call for it. This is the ultimate pressure valve on Putin.

Alongside sanctions & weapons, the West must reach beyond a new iron curtain.

🧵(1/11) First, their risk compared to the fully vaccinated only increased as Omicron cases rose. They're now 7x more likely to be hospitalised and the same when it comes to death.

First, the numbers. Are things so bad?

🧵 Yes. Today around 25% of ICU is occupied by Covid patients. Hospitalisations will increase as immunity wanes. Every (non-pandemic) Winter, ICU operates around 85% capacity.

It's simple maths. 85+25 = Overwhelmed. To avoid this, our plan must do two things:
