A few years ago, during my MA research at Byculla women’s jail had seen that whenever the jail officials announced the release of inmates who were granted bail, a commotion ensued... While the women being released would hurriedly gather their belongings, some would make a run towards them. They would pull at their hairclips, dupattas, asking for anything that the ‘free’ women could hand down.
