The book 'Islam, Authoritarianism & Underdevelopment' by @prof_ahmetkuru asks the basic question: why do Muslim-majority countries experience low levels of socio-economic developments, but high levels of authoritarianism (compared to world averages or commonly used rankings)? According to the author, the problem is not with Islam, but the interpretation of Islam by the complex alliances between religious officials and the state that hindered intellectual and economic creativity (beginning the 11th century).
