Now CNN is parroting a totally unfounded claim about the Texas blackouts, unchallenged. Folks, I've seen this happen so many damn times. The right makes a narrative, they define the headlines, and the 'both-sidesers' in MSM decide they have to report it.

cnn.com/2021/02/15/us/… Like, yes, it's true that there are frozen wind turbines. And no, it's not true that that is even a slight factor in the blackouts in Texas. The blackouts are happening in Texas because ERCOT does not plan for surges properly. ERCOT is shifting blame to 'frozen wind turbines.'

White House is leaning on Washington data to suggest that current strategy is working. But if you map the daily % increase in WA against the daily % increase in testing, the lines basically match. So daily cases could be decreasing just because testing is decreasing. Image This is the same trend I see nationwide. Ideally, case increase % would be going down faster than test increase %. If we had the ability to test everyone that wanted one, this could indicate fewer sick people asking for tests, but we know we don't have that capacity. Image

@RaulACarrillo Of course I am in favor of federally funding large parts of the GND. It's referenced in the resolution multiple times. But in an economic transformation at the scale of the GND, thousands of small businesses will get created and private capital will have a role... @RaulACarrillo ...unless you are saying the government should actively ban private capital from being able to, say, invest in the new businesses getting created as a result of the new markets that get developed due to this transformation?

The right-wing actually cannot believe that a working class latina like @AOC is smart, talented, and capable. They are creating entire conspiracy theories to try to disprove her intelligence. So here's some @AOC facts to show y'all just how good she is. 1) @AOC runs her own Twitter/IG. This is VERY rare in Congress. Most politicians have staff come up with what to say/figure out how to frame things. But @AOC's knowledge of issues is so deep that she does the communicating/framing herself.

This is lazy, so let's break it down. Her economics is supported by people from @StephanieKelton to @MazzucatoM to @AnnPettifor to @paulkrugman to Joe Stiglitz. If you are think they don't understand basic economics, you may want to rethink your own understanding. Economics is a social system. It is not a science. It is a set of rules we determine to prioritize some values over another. @vkhosla has gained greatly from the current system, but you have to be blind to not see that this system has some fundamental flaws.

So many people I've talked to in DC over the last week have said some version of this: "The 10 year timeline to reverse climate change and create millions of jobs seems like a great organizing tactic. But let's talk about what's actually possible." Let's talk about that. In 1940, as the threat if World War 2 loomed, FDR delivered a seminal speech on creating the arsenal of democracy. And he set specific production targets: 185,000 planes, 120,000 tanks, 55,000 anti-aircraft guns, 18 million tons of merchant shipping.
