You've heard a lot about Brett Favre stealing millions of $$$ from welfare.

What he did is wrong.

But what Mississippi has been doing is even worse.

Put on your 🤿 because we're diving in.
🧵

There are a bunch of welfare programs. There’s:

- SNAP
- Medicaid
- Section 8
- TANF
and more

Brett didn't trick or treat from each one. The specific program Brett & co (allegedly) conspired against and stole from is TANF.

So what’s that?

My pregnant wife (nearly full term) was w/ our 3 year old at the park, enjoying a lovely day.

A lady walks by & says "You're having another one? Lord help us. Go back to your country."

She's never experienced this hatred. And for our son to see it so early in life is upsetting. A man had been standing nearby with his kid when this happened. He asked Hina what the lady said. The man was so sorry to hear and apologized, saying that this isn't what the neighborhood is like.

We know because we've lived here for years w/o issue.

A years-long fight ends tomorrow.

Starting July 1, Virginians with drug felonies on their records will NO LONGER be banned from SNAP (food assistance) and TANF (cash assistance).

Spread the word. To hear about the oppressiveness of this ban, we spoke with Carl - a veteran and family man who struggled to put food on the table due to a drug felony.

Check out Carl's story on our podcast: anchor.fm/thejusticerepo…

With the Coronavirus taking out businesses, here is a thread of resources if you lose your job or income decreases:

- if your child is under 5 or you're pregnant, post-partum, or breastfeeding a child under 1, apply for WIC: fns.usda.gov/wic/wic-how-ap…

- if you need help putting food on the table, apply for SNAP: benefits.gov/benefit/361

- if you need cash benefits, apply for TANF (states differ on this): benefits.gov/benefit/613

- if you lost a job, apply for unemployment: benefits.gov/benefit/91

$19,825.

Two weeks ago, my wife and I welcomed our son into the universe. ❤️

That $ amount above? The total cost. A day of joy faded as I thought about my privilege of having health insurance and paid parental leave.

THREAD 1/14 Thanks to health insurance & job benefits, we had to pay none of the cost. Yet, over 70 million Americans who are uninsured or underinsured would face a bill that would derail their entire life. Why are we okay with this? 2/14
