A story of people and medicine in Alberta:

Our Primary Care zone had 120 Family Doctors about 1.5 years ago. Now, we have 100. By the summer, I’m told that number will be 94. I’m getting older but if my math skills are ok that’s a loss of 26 physicians (about a 22% loss). Those are simple numbers. The numbers I don’t have is how many patients will now be without a physician and a ‘medical home.’ Each MD typically cares for several hundred-a few thousand patients. So you do the math I guess.
