I never wanted to be the kind of person who calls out others on Twitter, but I don't know what else to do. I have been in a now years-long battle with someone who has consistently taken credit for my work on Where is the Cuneiform?, which began when I was a grad student. A 🧵 In the early days of the project (in 2020), when I was asking for help in locating cuneiform collections, I met with Dr. Sarah Buchanan only once over Zoom to chat. She expressed interest in the project and made some suggestions for further work. She suggested we collaborate.

Did you know that there is an outlet mall in East Los Angeles that features Neo-Assyrian architecture, decoration, and theming? It's called The Citadel and its story is pretty interesting. The front door of an art deco building making use of Neo-Ass When I first visited, I thought the theming was a new addition, done for the purposes of adding some fun to an otherwise average outlet mall. Turns out, the Citadel has looked like this for almost a hundred years!

Now that summer is coming to a close for me, it's time to jump more fully into my dissertation work, a project I'm calling "Secrecy, Protection, and the Foundations of Knowledge in Ancient Mesopotamia." Strap in for another thread no one asked for on literal ancient secrets. Sometimes tucked into scholarly cuneiform tablets we get "secrecy statements" in the form of warnings to keep the information for the mūdû, the one who knows, and away from lā mūdû, the one who does not know. So far, a pattern among these tablets has been elusive.
