Some of those Tory MPs who are panting at the prospect of a Boris return on the basis that he’s really popular and won a huge personal mandate, might want to have a look at the actual figures from the 2019 election. 1/6
The difference that Boris made – the increase in the Tory vote from 2017 – was just 329,770 extra votes. The Lib Dems, on the other hand, attracted an extra 1.325m votes. More than four times as many voters switched their votes to Swinson’s Lib Dems than Johnson’s Tories 2/6
