Hi all, some news! I’m now the editor of @workdaymagazine, a Minnesota-based labor journalism outlet covering the Midwest & global issues like climate & militarism, from the perspective of workers. We used to be called Workday Minnesota, so this is also a name-change announcement We decided to change our name to Workday Magazine to reflect that we're expanding to cover labor in other states in the Midwest, and to cover global issues that affect workers. The premise is that all labor is both hyper-local and international, so it’s important to cover both!

Just so it's clear, Biden is not, in fact, supporting the proposal for a patent waiver as-is, even though South Africa has been pushing for it for over a year. Biden says he supports a patent waiver of some kind and negotiations, but is being vague & not aggressively pushing. Here is sourcing for the Biden admin's lack of genuine pushing for the patent waiver proposal put forward by India and South Africa, which is important because the US is very powerful at the WTO and if it wants to make things happen there it certainly can. inthesetimes.com/article/world-…

The fact Big Pharma has the power to decide who lives and who dies creates a climate of intimidation that discourages countries from taking political positions the pharmaceutical industry doesn't like--namely, challenging patents. My latest w/ @mauriziogro inthesetimes.com/article/pfizer… Having the power to determine whether a huge swath of a country's population lives or dies is incredible leverage. The set-up is a recipe for monopolistic pharma companies to undermine and influence the decisions of elected governments.

It's here! The book my dad started, and I finished. A political noir about the corporate capture of utility regulators, the buildup to the Iraq War, and the way "public-private partnerships" enrich the powerful and take control away from the people. bookshop.org/books/testimon… It's full of jokes and suspenseful moments and observations that I believe reflect a mix of both of our politics. I think my dad would have liked how it turned out, but it's hard to be sure--he had a sharp, critical eye, always wanting things to be better.

This ADL report on "extremists" taking part in the Black Lives Matter protests includes "anarchists" and "antifa" among the list of extremists. Can we once and for all retire the notion that the ADL is a legit civil rights org? adl.org/blog/extremist… The ADL collaborates with law enforcement, sends US police to Israel to train with the IDF, marginalizes Palestinians demanding basic rights and the left overall, yet somehow always traffics in this civil rights org cred and is frequently quoted in the press.

Cannot believe this article. There's nothing to celebrate about the moderators. Their questions were a disgrace, entirely premised on defending US empire, asking gotcha questions from the right, and attacking the left. They struck a blow against feminism. thenation.com/article/democr… Ashley Parker's question about whether Warren would ask taxpayers to pay for taking down the border wall--both a symbol and tool of white supremacy, at a time people are dying in the borderlands--was so deeply disgusting and harmful.

Elizabeth Warren finally answered CFR's questions, and it's bad. The section on Palestine is a mess. She calls for a fortification of NATO, "containing" China, Russia, and Cuba on Venezuela, and she says something racist about population growth in Africa.
cfr.org/article/elizab… To be fair, Sanders said this during the climate forum and was rightly criticized for it.
