Millions of people have transformed their lives with Alcoholics Anonymous.

Many of its principles are universal and have stood the test of time.

Here's what entrepreneurs can learn from AA to lead with more clarity, composure, compassion, and calm 🧵👇 2/ Give me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change and the courage to change the things I can.

In other words, stay focused on what you can control, rather than getting bogged down by things outside of your control, such as market conditions and competitors.

2022 was a huge “transition year” for me.

Last January, I committed introspection, stillness, and balance. Sitting in liminal space was uncomfortable, but I’m now emerging from the cocoon and ready to fly 🦋

Here my biggest lessons and learnings from the past year 🧵 1/ Shining a light on and embracing your shadow is the path to self-love and self-acceptance. Self-love > self care.

I’ve been reflecting on my previous career as a VC, and with the benefit of hindsight, I'm realizing that I was a decent investor but could have been a great one.

Here’s the advice I'd give myself if I could go back to 2010 when I was just starting out as a VC 🧵 1/ There are many approaches to VC. Define your own game based on your firm's strategy, what you value, what type of founders you like to work with, what kind of companies excite you, and what drives real returns.

Discover your own taste and lane.

This weekend I went down a rabbit hole and studied the work of Martin Seligman, the father of positive psychology.

Seligman's research shows that anyone can build a life filled with happiness, contentment, and meaning.

Yes, anyone can have this. Even you.

A thread 👇 2) Seligman's PERMA Model outlines the five key elements of well-being and happiness.

PERMA stands for:

P – Positive Emotion
E – Engagement
R – Relationships
M – Meaning
A – Accomplishments

His research shows that it works not only for individuals but also large institutions.

There's no shortage of advice for founders; it's everywhere.

What's been missing is an online center of gravity for actionable, tactical advice. Until now.

Introducing the High Output Library, created by @rishi_tripathy_ and me

Check it out: highoutput.co/library

[THREAD] The Library started as a few links I'd send to founders I work with, compiled from the most helpful entrepreneurs, operators, and investors.

It's now a collection of 300 hand-picked pieces that give practical advice on 75+ topics across 8 categories.

We're just getting started.

1/ This morning I reread the epilogue of 'Winning' by Michael Moritz of @Sequoia.

It's one of my favorite essays on leadership and greatness.

There are countless nuggets of wisdom about Manchester United, Sequoia and company building.

Here's a thread with the highlights: 2/ Early in the essay, Moritz describes Sequoia as a, “California-based private investment partnership" rather than a venture capital firm.

A partnership implies a team. And I believe Sequoia takes a team-oriented approach. That’s a core reason for their enduring success.

This weekend I attended an inspiring leadership retreat hosted by @BrianLevenson.

Attendees included:
Navy seal
MMA champ
Hollywood actor
Division I woman’s hoop coach
Legendary sports agent
Turnaround specialist
Harvard Law professor
Quad amputee

Here are some takeaways: 1) A leader can learn so much about the current health and mindset of a team / organization by walking around, checking in and asking how everyone is doing.
