My latest article, "The Epistemic Dimension of Antisemitism", was just published in the Journal of Jewish Identities. It explores antisemitism via the lens of epistemic injustice. Always happy to get feedback and thoughts!
davidschraubcom.files.wordpress.com/2022/07/episte… Special shoutout on this one goes to @temasmith , who collaborated with me on an earlier version of this project and graciously allowed me to carry it forward when she had to dropout. I'm nonetheless indebted to her for her insights and contributions (and friendship!).

This really is terrible history on virtually every level. I'm not even necessarily against court-packing anymore, but the causal claims here about how the court-packing threat influenced judicial behavior are just wrong. What is probable is that widespread political anger at SCOTUS both (a) influenced judicial behavior to be more pro-New Deal and (b) made FDR feel emboldened to propose Court-packing. But ultimately, it was political power that made the difference, not the Court packing threat.

Sometimes, you'll see a picture of a Black leader shaking hands with Louis Farrakhan. And when people see such a picture, they often ask "how is that possible? How could they associate with someone like that?"

But perhaps this will help some understand [thread] Here we have @scottarichman of @ADL_NYNJ accepting an award from Yossi Gestetner for advocating on behalf of Orthodox Jews. Orthodox Jews in NY are often targeted for antisemitic hate crimes, so it is salutary that the ADL would work to fight that.

An interesting feature of AIPAC's semi-successful (though expensive) interventions in D primaries this year has been the fact that they haven't focused on their adversary's Israel policies but rather cut adds attacking perceived disloyalty to the Democratic Party. Others have noted correctly that that's (a) ironic, coming from insurrectionist-endorsing AIPAC and (b) revealing, insofar as AIPAC clearly doesn't think directly promoting its Israel vision is a winning strategy in D primaries. But it also reveals something else.

Try this instead, @KenRoth:
"Antisemitism is always wrong, and it long preceded the creation of Israel, yet the surge in UK antisemitic incidents during the recent Gaza conflict gives the lie to those who pretend that antisemitism never presents itself as 'criticism of Israel'." @KenRoth Ken says he's merely IDing a "correlation". But think about who is allegedly "lying" in his formulation. Do Jews deny that antisemitism and anti-Israelism are correlated? Of course not--if anything, we're accused of drawing that link too quickly!

I was ready to bet the second I read this that it’d be, at best, misleading, and turns out I’d win that bet.

The one thing I’ll say in the tweeter’s defense is that material cited in his follow-ups helped show how misleading it is, albeit in spite of his own best efforts. But the short of it is that the proposed curriculum:
* Does not eliminate 8th grade algebra, combining it with other material;
* Opposes tracking only in middle school; and
* Preserves HS calc while emphasizing a different (not lower-level) default terminus for HS math education.

I'm not saying I'm *surprised* that Ben Shapiro openly endorsed ethnic cleansing of Palestinians, because I'm not, only that I hadn't actually seen the column where he did, indeed, openly endorse ethnic cleansing of Palestinians. townhall.com/columnists/ben… Shapiro: "Here is the bottom line: If you believe that the Jewish state has a right to exist, then you must allow Israel to transfer the Palestinians and the Israeli-Arabs from Judea, Samaria, Gaza and Israel proper. It's an ugly solution, but it is the only solution."

A striking graph from the @eitanhersh and
@lauraroyden paper on antisemitism (which I think is truly superb). What on earth is going on with young, college-educated conservatives? Antisemitism just shoots up in the cohort -- it's glaring! Definitely want to see a deeper dive. Something seems to be happening in the college crowd, but the disproportionate impact on conservatives suggests that it isn't the "leftist indoctrination turning progressives into antisemites" story that's been getting much press.

Can I take "what Randi Weingarten said was extremely poorly put and the phrase 'ownership class' in particular sounds in antisemitic tropes, but that she's obviously been a proud Jewish leader for many years and is not an inveterate Jew-hater", or is that option off the board? Interestingly, I think one would struggle to fit Weingarten's comments into the IHRA antisemitism definition. I guess you could claim it is a case of "mendacious, dehumanizing, demonizing, or stereotypical allegations," but that seems to overstate things.

There's now an "author's note" appended to the @tabletmag hit job on California's Ethnic Studies Curriculum, which fails to address the seemingly core sin that the author falsified key pieces of evidence. Indeed, it tacitly double-down. (Thread) tabletmag.com/sections/news/… As I recount here, the article falsely claims a particular antisemitic quote is found in the curriculum. This is objectively false--neither the quote, nor the source from which the quote comes from, is in the curriculum. This falsehood remains uncorrected. dsadevil.blogspot.com/2021/01/the-an…
