a tldr thought on tech-based research ops, from someone that was a capital R researcher: you dont separate research from ips. When you are a babby research assistant, the FIRST thing you learn is how to do the research. the tech setup, the logistics, the recruiting, all of it
AS you do that, you then also learn your domain and how to think of and conceive of research, develop specialities, etc. but it goes hand in hand. to be a researcher is to be a planner/ops person. or to be an asshole that relies way too much on your assistants and admin staff
