This is a thread on my experience at the Camp Nou yesterday. Everything, from my interaction with the locals to my thoughts on the game, and a lot of self reflection as well. Hope you enjoy (because I did): Image First: The Two Ladies. There were 2 very old ladies (75+ years old) a few seats away from me, who shook hands when they arrived. They’ve been going to the ground for decades, to those very same seats, same as almost everyone around me. It felt like a small community, a family.

What happened today in Madrid is the tip of the iceberg, racism is deeply rooted in Spanish culture. Busquets, Carvajal & Cucurella were caught on camera calling black players “monkeys”. Pep told R. Carlos to shut up when he complained about being called a monkey at the Camp Nou. The amount of Spanish Football Twitter accounts I’ve reported over the years for abhorrently racist tweets is endless. The same Real Madrid fans who are outraged today, were calling Vinicius the N word like it was nothing when he wasn’t performing in 2020.
