Taking paternity leave, unfortunately, can hurt men's careers. A key reason: Small differences in face time can tip decisions about whom to promote. The good news: If paternity leave became the norm, the career penalty would shrink.

Some of the most important knowledge gained from randomized experiments in economics has been about programs not working as well as expected.
