It's possible only in India that a Muslim youngster from Kashmir can go on to top the Indian Civil Service exam, rise to top echelons of the government, then fall apart with the government and still be rescued and taken back by the same government. Rishi Saunak's appointment 1/4 might be a surprise for our neighbours where the Constitution bars non-Muslims from top posts in the Government, but Indian democracy has never discriminated ethnic and religious minorities from the rest.

As equal citizens, Indian Muslims enjoy freedoms that are unthinkable 2/4

Essay Thread: Real is rational.

Hegel is very difficult to understand. I am not sure how many students from non-political science/philosophy background would be knowing Hegel.

I read Alexander Kojeev's Introduction to Reading of Hegel atleast ten years after UPSC exam. 1/n I would have approached this topic from Indian philosophy angle (Maya) and also connected it to Weber's theory of bureaucratic rationality.
What's being said here is that whatever exists can be known and whatever can be known must exist.

Let's try to break this down. 2/n

UPSC Essay topic:
"Your perception of me is a reflection of you; my reaction to you is an awareness of me".
My two cents.
(On demand from many students).

This quote has two parts. The first part is about how you judge me. Your opinion of me. Or rest of the world. 1/n Look at it from the perspective of Intersubjectivity which tells us that we influence others and are influenced by others.
How do we perceive the world outside us? Obviously our perception is shaped by our beliefs, attitudes and experiences. Our thoughts create our world.

Thread:

I just spoke to a student who has got 94% marks in class 12, CBSE, but isn't getting admission in any of the DU colleges in Psychology Honors.

She was quite stressed as the cut off is 99-100% and she can't afford going to private colleges or abroad.

On the other end, a group of her moneyed batchmates have given an ad for maids to accompany them to foreign universities where they got admission in Psychology honors with a far lower percentages.

This is thus not merely a question of access but one of equity.
