As an illustrative example have highlighted the fiscal impact of subsidy politics of freebies of the @ArvindKejriwal led AAP govt in Delhi: doling out subsidies has shrunk revenue surplus from over 10,000 cr in 2010-11 to a little over 1000 cr in 2021-2022 – a nearly 88% decline During the same period this state government also saw its dependence on grants-in-aid from the center go up by 122%. The untold story of course is that in the absence of the grants-in-aid from the center, this state’s surplus would have vanished resulting in a 2000 crore deficit.
