it is that time of the year again – teachers are planning ice breakers, introductory activities, and making first-day slide decks. here are some reminders from your favorite non-binary teacher-scholar-friend. 1. When introducing yourself to students, use your pronouns (looking at your cisgender folks). Using your pronouns in your intro signals you have an awareness of gender diversity and establishes you as a potentially safe-ish space for trans/gender non-conforming (GNC) folks.

A year ago, @Jess5th and I launched #RainbowSummer. Today, we wrapped year 2 AND our new pub, "Chasing Rainbows in Stormy Weather: Reading and Discussing LGBTQ+ YAL as Liberatory Professional Development..." dropped in English Leadership Quarterly! library.ncte.org/journals/elq/i… Sure, @Jess5th and I have our name on the doc, but #RainbowSummer wouldn't be anything without our four amazing youth interns/facilitators. They are the soul and true genius behind this idea and I'm so grateful I've gotten to share space with them during the past two summers.

okay....so we just won’t use that term, bro. we still gon’ teach the kids the truth. I think it’s so funny that these people think that banning these terms will stop us from using the theory subversively in curriculum and classrooms.
