Reading about the end of the Times-Picayune is wrenching for me because one thing that paper did changed my life. 3 years before Katrina they published an investigation that essentially predicted the catastrophe nola.com/environment/pa… Sadly, many ignored it at time, but after Katrina, this work was hailed for being the very best in public service journalism. I finally read it and realized journalists in California had to do the same thing for earthquakes...
