Why aren’t more healthcare workers/trainees speaking out against medical apartheid in Gaza? Because other healthcare workers, their colleagues, are surveilling their social media accounts for any language they can use to cause them harm/have them removed from roles/positions. These healthcare workers are going so far as to copy & pasting responses to any healthcare worker who condemns genocide in any form or shows any support for Palestinians without utilizing dehumanizing language that would further Islamophobia.

Media outlets blaming nurses for hospitals systems in financial ruin when those same hospitals FURLOUGHED staff at the start of the pandemic, offered early retirement & found any reason to FIRE permanent nursing staff to recover from pausing elective surgeries… After showing nursing & ancillary staff how much they cared for their well being by denying the N95s, limiting access to PPE & asking staff to reuse PPE for days to weeks, we’re supposed to be SHOCKED they left in droves?

There is no “Stepdown” from ICU anymore. It’s “they’re off pressors & off the vent so let’s place them on PCU with a ratio of 1:5 or Med/Surg with a ratio of 1:8.”

Then it’s “why are there so many rapid responses on these PCUs/Med/Surg units? Then it’s “these PCU/Med/Surg nurses don’t know how to manage these patients”

No, we literally CAN’T manage these assignments because they’re NOT SAFE. Many of these patients should still be followed by intensive care & be monitored more frequently.

I get frustrated when people who don’t work in healthcare tell me they “don’t care if unvaccinated people die or are hospitalized”

I do. I have to watch them struggle to breathe, I have to tell them that they aren’t doing well on 100% BIPAP & that intubation is next. I have to watch them tell their families they need to be intubated while they’re still conscious. I have to prepare them for intubation. I have to watch them be placed on a ventilator. I have to hope they will come off. I have to relive that in my sleep.
