It feels like Starmerism has opportunistically shifted from a standard Labour right ‘capital’s B team’ project to an attempt to supplant the Tories as the ‘natural party of government’ by becoming capital’s A team. There are conditions for a political tendency being able to do this. Possibly the most important is a preparedness to accept that the hegemony of finance capital either cannot or must not be challenged. I’m unsure though if and how Labour could do this and retain the union link.
