Yesterday the place I used to work tweeted all its Rwanda coverage except any articles written by me. Which is odd as I was one of the first reporters to realise this was different from the Australian policy & the first UK reporter to uncover a 13th refugee killing there… This was my first article on the scheme - looking at the failures of the Australian and Israel policy bylinetimes.com/2022/04/14/joh…

There’s a lot to agree with in this piece about individualism & choice feminism, but as someone who was v active before & during the 4th Wave, I do think we deserve some more credit… heres why… thread incoming thetimes.co.uk/article/089098… I got involved in feminist activism in 2007 and I really do believe a lot of the actions we took were radical & about collective action. We did consciousness raising, pro abortion protests, Reclaim the Nights, cultural events, grassroots protests against porn culture…

Falling for Christmas on the telly and tree up - it’s getting festive in here! Cc @DrLizJenkinson 🎄🎄 Image The script and acting leave much to be desired, as does the narrative progression, but I’m obviously so into it.

Since the leak of the Roe v Wade decision, me & @Heidi_Cuda at @BylineTimes have been relentlessly covering the story - with data, reporting, and analysis. “To do this work, you absolutely must believe that it can make a difference – that it will inform people, expose those with bad intentions.” theguardian.com/world/2022/jun… My experience reporting on far right extremism is not as devastating and painful as described in this article. But I recognise a lot of what Leah says here.

I’ve seen a tweet saying the UK gave asylum to every person from Rwanda in 2020 - I spent a lot of time looking at home office data today and I’m not sure this is correct. Here’s the data I have (asylum granted in red) The MOU also says “The Participants will make arrangements for the United Kingdom to resettle a portion of Rwanda’s most vulnerable refugees in the United Kingdom, recognising both Participants’ commitment towards providing better international protection for refugees."

OK So I've read the speech and the MOU and the announcement and there's a lot to be concerned about in this proposed policy - thread incoming... 1. From the MOU: The objective of this Arrangement is to create a mechanism for the relocation of asylum seekers whose claims are not being considered by the United Kingdom, to Rwanda, which will process their claims and settle or remove (as appropriate) individuals

The other night I watched a doc about the attempted insurrection at the Capitol and had some very real concerns bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episod… which I will share in a thread. The doc featured illuminating interviews with many of the people who stormed the Capitol but it was really concerning that no context was given about their views or their previous careers.

In two weeks I’m having a camera inserted through my cervix with no pain relief. I’m told to take an ibuprofen an hour before, while women report screaming in pain at the procedure. All this talk of cervixes and yet we aren’t really ever talking about pain, sexism & medicine. One of the hardest stories I ever worked on was about obstetric violence and the pain inflicted on vulvas, vaginas, wombs and cervixes. I had nightmares about it. odz.sk/en/when-gyneco…
