Interesting survey. It is only of 100 highly motivated people, so massive block of salt needed. I think Carol might be right that drs and regional services in NZ are 'quiet quitting' on sex trait modification. Comments follow 🧵 Good to see this Canterbury doctor giving effect to full information rights and refusing to prescribe blockers before the ban. This is reported second-hand but obviously still needs education that no child is transdender Image

I've published my response to John Palethorpe's (@oldcansmate) complaint to the Herald regarding @swannieriv 's article archive.is/i9Uo0 from the other day. It also serves as an introduction to early medical intervention.
Thread -> About half of Palethorpe's points are easily shown to be false. Not simply debatable or a matter of interpretation, but plainly false. The majority of the rest are red herrings. Those interested are encouraged to read both and decide for themselves ->

The US "paper of record" @nytimes covered puberty blockers on the front page yesterday. A milestone. Time for a 🧵 looking at the coverage, and look back on the year's other developments in this space.

First, the framing that "transgender youths" are taking these drugs. But really its any kid, often proto-LGB, who is distressed by their body or imposed stereotypes and latches onto an identity (as kids do) to feel connected to a community

This archived thread is the jumping off point. 👇 archive.vn/7Ejsu
Image The OP is clear she took testosterone and had mastectomy ('top surgery") to pass as a man and escape harassment, not because she has a male identity.

She of course would have told doctors that she identified as a man, and may have believed this at the time.
