I read the New European JK Rowling story 3 times yesterday + realised how easy it would be to take the arguments at face value. So here's a thread of all the inaccuracies and incorrect assumptions I spotted, in case you too are worried abt a family member who buys it every day 1. The headline/premise: there's no war against JKR. Even if you equate the idea of "cancel culture" to "war", none of this applies to JK - there is no huge movement calling for Harry Potter to be cancelled (at least, not for her views on trans people)...

A reminder that yes, gender is a construct - it is also real. The vast majority of things in the world that exist are social constructs (such as: misogyny). Sex is a construct too: it's a way humans have invented to categorise people based on observed sexual characteristics (1/) There is no way to be "objectively" or "scientifically" female, it's all based on random assignation of meaning to existing trails which sometimes (arguably most of the time), but not always, can align to things like chromosomes and genitals.
