The Story of Julaybīb's Marriage

قال أنس بن مالك رضي الله عنه :

Anas bn Mālik said:

كان رجل من أصحاب النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم يقال له جُليبيب ، كان في وجهه دمامة

There was among the Sahābah a man with an ugly face named Julaybīb. و كان فقيراً ويكثر الجلوس عند النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم
He was poor and used to spend most of his time sitting with the Prophet

فقال له النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم ذات يوم :يا جُليبيب ألا تتزوج يا جُليبيب؟

Today, in our explanation of the Hadīth لا يقبل الله صلاة أحدكم إذا أحدث حتى يتوضأ “Allāh will not accept the prayer of any one of you if he breaks wind, until he does wudū”, we examined the juristic polemics on the application of the word قَبول ‘acceptance’. 2. The reason for the differences in its application can be traced to the differences in its connotations. Basically, jusrists have defined this word in two ways:

a. ترتب الثواب على العبادة qualification of an act of worship for reward. The major point here is الثواب (reward).

Scholars of Islām said there are two fundamental reasons why man is commanded to wear clothes: To cover his nudity & to look nice.

If one's cloth satisfies only either of the two reasons above, then, it would not be deemed to have fulfilled the natural essence for clothing. For instance, if one's cloth is torn or tattered or exposes the cleavages or back or hips, et cetera, he/she has not covered his/her nudity. Looting hoarded public properties: A Sharī'ah perspective.

It is impermissible to do so even if it's being hoarded unjustly. The ownership of a public property is unspecified until each person gets their legitimate share. Looting public properties is expressly unlawful and unjustified under any guise, even if the leaders are unjust.The Prophet - peace and blessing upon him- enjoined us to observe our duties to to unjust rulers and leave them to Allāh for our denied rights.

Some people think that if one's right were withheld by another, one is permitted to go behind his back to retrieve it without his consent and approval. For example, the looting of the COVID-19 food palliatives that happened in Lagos recently. This idea is false and criminal. Islām does not approve of criminal actions. يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أَبَا سُفْيَانَ رَجُلٌ شَحِيحٌ لاَ يُعْطِينِي مِنَ النَّفَقَةِ مَا يَكْفِينِي وَيَكْفِي بَنِيَّ إِلاَّ مَا أَخَذْتُ مِنْ

1-القاعدة الأولى: (لستَ وحدك)

You’re NOT alone

2- القاعدة الثانية: (لا يقدر الله شيئا إلا لحكمة)

Allāh does everything for a reason 3- القاعدة الثالثة: (جالب النفع ودافع الضر هو الله، فلا تتعلق إلا به)

Only Allāh can benefit and harm. Hold on to none but Him.

4- القاعدة الرابعة: (ما أصابك لم يكن ليخطئك ، وما أخطأك لم يكن ليصيبك)

Whatever harms you could never have missed you and

It is permitted to take the Janābah bath with soap (and sponge). This can be done through either of the following two ways:

* The bathwater can be mixed with soap (liquid or powdered) and then used to take the Janābah bath. (This is debatable. The majority of the scholars oppose its use while Abū Hanīfah, Ahmad in one of his two views & which is the stand of Ibn Taimiyah permit it.). The view of permissibility is stronger in proof but the view of impermissibility is safer. (وقول الجمهور أحوط، وإن كان القول بجواز التطهر به أقوى في الدليل

Our Situation Today

وقع حجر على ذيل ثعلب فقطع ذيله .

A stone fell on a fox’s tail and severed it.

فرآه ثعلب آخر فسأله لم قطعت ذيلك ؟ قال له إني أشعر بسعادة وكأني طائر في الهواء يالها من متعة .

When another fox saw him, he asked, why did you severe your tail? He replied: I feel happiness (without the tail). I feel like I’m flying in the air. What a great delight it is!

فجعله يقطع ذيله ! فلما شعر بألم شديد ولم يجد متعة مثله ، سأله : لما كذبت عليّ ؟

So the second fox cut his own tail, but rather than find it pleasurable like his friend said,

One of the obligatory duties upon every sincere Muslim is to not make aby statement or take any action except that he knows the injunction of Allāh on it. It is on this basis that Allāh commands thus:

فَسۡـئَلُوۡۤا اَهۡلَ الذِّكۡرِ اِنۡ كُنۡتُمۡ لَا تَعۡلَمُوۡنَۙ "So ask those who possess knowledge if you do not know." (16:43)

This is why eminent scholars of Hadīth like Al-Bukhārī رحمه الله among others have a chapter dedicated for this purpose. It reads:

بَابٌ: العِلْمُ قَبْلَ القَوْلِ وَالْعَمَلِ

Chapter: (The obligation of seeking)

Nupeland is a theatre of charade & shenanigans. Perhaps one of the catalysts for the pervasive absurdities in Nupeland is the Sūfī's unnecessary emphasis on, nay exaggeration of the concepts of wilāyah & karāmāt, & their inability to differentiate between the latter & sorcery. As a Muslim & researcher, I totally believe in the concepts of wilāyah & karāmāt. However, I have a problem with the fact that Sūfīs tend to have monopolized these concepts & arrogated to their acclaimed saints the power to exhibit karāmāt almost to the exclusion of others.

One of the most unfortunate things about Nupeland is that the things we proudly celebrate as culture are acts of Shirk, Kufr and grave sins. I will pick just three examples:

The 9th Hadīth from ‘Umdat al-Ahkām reads as follows:

عن عائشة رضي الله عنها قالت: كان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم يُعجِبه التيمُّن في تنعُّله وترجُّله وطهوره، وفي شأنه كلِّه

“The Prophet ﷺ loved to begin his affairs from the right: his wearing shoes, combing hair & purification. After my dars on this Hadīth, a man asked: Ustādh, based on this Hadīth, we are encouraged to wear our shoes & clothes beginning with the right side. How come you’re wearing your ring and wristwatch on your left?”
