I would beg people who hold this kind of defeatist stance to read the story of Dr Henry Morgentaler, a concentration camp survivor, who spent 10 months in jail, had a heart attack while in solitary, and singlehandedly legalized abortion in Quebec. In the 1970s. Morgantaler was reluctant to break the law, but eventually came to a moral conclusion that he had a higher duty to his patients. He was tried multiple times. Each time, he argued that his duty as a doctor superseded the law. Each time, he was aquitted.

I still don't understand why doctors aren't willing to go to jail for their profession and the health of their patients. Hospitals have legal teams that will go to extremes to prevent malpractice suits from going to trial. Why can't those same legal teams fight for doctors who have broken unjust laws to help their patients?

The blue checkmark thing is actually pretty interesting, since it's only the worst conservatives who will be A) willing to wear the blue badge of shame and B) pay for the privilege. since blue checkmarks are promoted on every thread, it has the effect of centrifuging the comments, with the better - weightier - ones ending up at the bottom.
