@TheAgeofShoddy and with barely-concealed contempt towards those they deem obsolete, worthless, and replaceable: Image @TheAgeofShoddy despite the larp about re-industrialization, "American Dynamism", etc; many of these ai guys seem to exude profound contempt for Americans (and mankind in general tbh). America as a special economic zone that's a useful host for ai/tech projects vs America as a nation of peoples.

Luhn's algorithm let me troll some scammers a few years back, i was getting a call every couple days; while i was on the phone once and the scammer was asking me for my card number i looked up a website that generates payment card numbers that pass Luhn but obviously aren't real attempting to charge something obviously didn't work but not in a way that made it obvious i had given him garbage, so the scammer brought in his supervisor who then proceeded to make a conference call with the credit card issuer to try and get them to authorize the transaction

also it's also not even true; muscle in fact contains more than one cell type (theres connective tissue, nerves, vascular, adipocytes, etc) and isnt just some undifferentiated slather of myocytes. also organ meats go hard, imagine giving those up in favor of bioreactor slop. if it were indistinguishable (if there was no way to differentiate it from the real deal using all the [bio]chemical instruments known to man) it'd be different, but that is a huge if. It is flagrantly not even close, but many many people are under a misunderstanding that it is!

dissociating when i was a child i dissociated so consistently while misaiming/defocusing my eyes that i never let form the binocular fusion mechanism that synthesizes a coherent image – i thought that "binocular vision" meant "you see two of everything" because i had never had anything else

Old roombas used to have a piezo transducer in the dust path (bare, so flying dirt would impact it) to let the robot detect the presence of unusually high dust and focus on the area. You can see where it used to be, in the disc labeled "DD" (dirt detect). But wait, it's not here! Also thank you iRobot for making machines disassemblable only with a single screwdriver, captive screws everywhere, and adorkable little card-edge connectors. From left to right, vacuum motor, bin sensor, motorized brush:
