Elon Musk at the @FT conference just now: “I have to say the this this notion of induced demand is one of the single dumbest notions I've ever heard in my entire life." @FT More Musk on induced demand: “If adding roads just increases traffic, why don't we delete them and decrease traffic? I think you'd have an uproar if you did that."

NEW: Canoo is suing its second-largest shareholder, and one of the startup’s original backers, alleging that it wrongfully made “short swing” profit on recent share sales.

The backer? A firm controlled by Pak Tam Li, who has ties to the CCP:

bloomberg.com/news/articles/… $GOEV Li was 1 of 3 who funded Canoo when it was founded in late 2017, as I first reported in 2019:

Tesla factory worker tells me: “I really thought because of their mission statement I was actually doing something great ... but his mission statement has proved to be complete bullshit and he is a greedy asshole. He cares nothing of mankind.”

theverge.com/2020/5/9/21253… This is from a worker who has otherwise been very diplomatic and at times spoken very highly of their job at the Fremont plant.

GM, maybe more than any other company, has tried to walk a delicate line with Trump during his presidency to try to get what it wants while also trying to avoid the worst of his ire.

That choice has backfired at basically every turn.

GM: “We’ve seen the tweet.”

The cruise industry's top companies incorporate in small countries to take advantage of low or no taxes, and looser labor and environmental laws. Don't bail them out.

theverge.com/2020/3/23/2118… I wrote this after being inspired by two great airline bailout pieces, which you should also read:

Hello from Washington, DC, where the National Transportation Safety Board is about to wrap its investigation into a fatal crash involving Tesla’s Autopilot.

(Yes I am the nerd who got here first.) The crash was on March 23, 2018. Walter Huang was driving to work on US-101, like he did every day. He had Autopilot on in his Tesla Model X. As a left exit split off from his lane, the car pulled him into the “gore area” and he crashed into the barrier

Welcome back, my friends, to the show that never ends.

AKA Tesla is about to drop its Q2 2019 financial results. We already know the company set a record for production and deliveries. Now it’s time to see how close it got to digging out of the red. “About to” is a relative term there — the market closed 45 minutes ago and we still don’t have the company’s shareholder letter. Last quarter it took until after 5PM ET before that dropped.

Also, Elon Musk’s call with analysts isn’t scheduled start until 6:30PM ET, so settle in

The things that happen at the fringes of Tesla world are so weird. Like today when a twitter account for a supposed “Senior Journalist at Bloomberg” named “Maisy Kinsley” followed a few too many Tesla short-sellers. Account is already suspended. Being the hounds that they are, the TSLAQ army quickly realized that Kinsley's profile photo was most likely generated by a machine learning tool like this: theverge.com/tldr/2019/2/15…

And got Bloomberg to admit that no one works there w/ that name.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk responded to the Securities and Exchange Commission’s recent attempt to hold him in contempt of court tonight theverge.com/2019/3/11/1826… The SEC sued Musk for securities fraud last fall after his abandoned attempt to take Tesla private, a move for which he infamously tweeted he had "funding secured."
