One more thread about why cc0 licenses in NFTs are fundamentally different with visual art vs. music.

This time, with real examples!

Let's go, folks.

👇
🧵 First, a quick definition:

cc0 stands for Creative Commons Zero.

@creativecommons is a wonderful alternative to traditional forms of copyright. I've been releasing all of Song A Day using CC since the very beginning (2009).

I really want to respond to @FoldableHuman's fantastic critique of NFTs and Crypto.

I am neither as smart or rhetorically endowed as Dan, but I am laying in bed with a stomach bug and I keep thinking about it so what the hell, I'm gonna try. To begin with, the fact is that I agree with a lot of his analysis.

@tayvano_ did an amazing job of citing all the parts that are totally right on, so read that thread and come back:

I just signed the docs that summon SongADAO into existence.

It's a DAO. It's also a *legal co-op*. What does this mean?

It means we're flipping the entire fucking music industry on its stupid GODAMN HEAD.

IT’S A WILD EXPERIMENT IN COLLECTIVE OWNERSHIP.

LFG!

Time for a 🧵👇 1st thing 1st:

If you own a Song A Day NFT, you are automatically eligible to be in the DAO (tho there's another step to becoming a member, keep reading)

Currently there are only ~60 slots open.

1/ I got curious about Michael Jackson’s songwriting process, and I fell down a rabbit hole on the song Billie Jean.

What follows is a thread about the (really quite) interesting things I found, with links, audio and video. 1a/ (is this the right time for something like this? I hope so.)
