As national media focuses briefly on Seattle following this week's report on the disinformation campaign run by Seattle Police, it's important to highlight facts that were omitted or distorted. This thread breaks down OPA's report and Seattle Times story.

seattletimes.com/seattle-news/p… (Prologue 1: This info has been publicly available since 2020. I helped compile it at the time, but the actual work was done by community members on the ground and on the internet. They are cited in the original reporting linked wherever possible. I'm so sorry to anyone I missed)

Hey maybe the 2022 Seattle Times should nix the "breaking news" banner when reporting news that happened in 2020. In their defense, the Seattle Times was quite busy that week, thoughtlessly parroting fictional police disinformation, defending that reporting, and then subsequently deleting it days later without issuing a correction.

In *JULY 2020*, I published a video, 'Disinformation And The Seattle Police Department', laying out details of this and several other related events. 1.5 years later and I've yet to see a single mainstream outlet meaningfully address what we now know was a deliberate strategy. Here's that video.

This is your quarterly reminder that Seattle Police staged a hoax in June of 2020, leading the public to believe a large group of armed white-nationalists was marching towards Capitol Hill to confront protesters. Not a single person has been held accountable. This is despite the fact there is a mountain of evidence proving it, despite the fact OPA opened an investigation more than a year ago, and despite the fact that investigation has been completed for months. This is a slow-walk cover-up, plain and simple.

Adrian Diaz, Seattle's new police chief, recently released a list of the top 5 priorities for the department under his leadership. Diaz has been in the job a month, so I figured it was a good time to see how his department has performed so far. Let's take it one at a time...

1/ Chief of Police Adrian Diaz has committed the department to 1) Re-envisioning Policing – Engage openly in a community-led process of designing the role the department should play in community safety.

(They're here for a community-led process, but then they violently arrest community leaders? Seems weird. 🤷‍♂️)

If you're just hearing about Proud Boys for the first time tonight, after Trump asked them and other rightwing militias to "stand by," there's some local context you should know. Proud boys are frequently protected and weaponized by the Seattle Police Department. 1/ Particularly in the past few months, Proud Boys have shown up to antagonize BLM protesters, they've attacked people outside of CHOP, driven around without license plates, assaulted protesters *outside a pro-police rally*, and done it all without any reaction from Seattle Police.

My favorite content on the internet right now are photos of Seattle's "Anti-Vandal Quick Reaction Force" (actual name), who put on vests and hard-hats then drive around in a van looking for anti-police graffiti, and then "fix" it by making it look 1000 times worse. ❤️ They have a gofundme and a van! 😂😂

I can't believe this content is free.

The plot thickens. Seattle Police have responded to a public disclosure request about the supposed march by armed white nationalists headed for CHAZ back in June. SPD claim they have no record of it, and they claim it may have been National Guard instead. We have proof it wasn't. Image Huge thanks to @TopShelfCJ for making the FOIA request and sharing SPD's response.

Honest question: Has anyone seen any clear evidence to contradict the theory that the abandonment of the East Precinct was orchestrated by the police union rather than through the proper chain of command? There's a decent amount of circumstantial evidence to support the theory... most notably an open letter and press conference by union president, Mike Solan, claiming his union members will be hurt if they are required to keep guarding the building without chemical crowd control.

There has been a noticeable change in tactics by the Seattle Police Department in the past month, beginning shortly after the city council voted to cut the police budget by a mere 1%. This is a thread documenting the unrepentant violence they've committed in just the past month. On August 12th, Seattle Police use an unmarked GMC Yukon to attempt to hit people on the sidewalk near Cal Anderson park. The officer admits to driving on the sidewalk, then brags about getting paid $200,000 a year to "babysit."

I frequently get asked if I defend the recent use of molotovs at local demonstrations. I don't defend it. I don't condemn it either. To me, these acts of destruction are a consequence of our collective failures, the same as the increasing frequency of wildfires or hurricanes. Plenty of people smarter than me have written about the impact of targeted destruction during protest movements, and I'll defer to them on the historical intricacies of that issue. But personally, I don't assign a normative value to these sort of acts.

As police violence becomes more widespread, I increasingly see police apologists justifying their abuse by pointing to past destructive actions by protesters. I want to talk about this fallacy and why we shouldn't treat protesters as a monolith in the same way we treat police. The mainstream view of these conflicts often boils down to Protesters vs Police, which is a convenient shorthand but ultimately misrepresents the dynamics. These two groups of people are fundamentally different, and I think it's worthwhile to highlight those differences...

I don't often agree with them, but Safe Seattle, the local hate group, is rightfully furious about this awful graffiti on the sidewalk outside this local business.

But wait a second... What does that say?? 🤔 ImageImageImageImage Oh look, it's actually all over West Seattle. Here it is at 45th & Fauntleroy. Image

There has been a noticeable change in the Seattle Police Department's behavior since the city council voted last week to take away a mere 1% of their budget for the year. The increase in brazen, remorseless violence, is undeniable. This is a thread of events from the past week. Last Wednesday night, an unmarked truck, driven by a Seattle Police officer, attempts to hit protesters standing on a sidewalk.

TW - Police Violence

The violence committed by Seattle Police on Sunday was worse than I thought. After the protest dispersed, SPD hunted down and brutalized anyone suspected of being a protester. This particular beating is especially bad and should result in criminal charges. This sort of thing was happening all across the CID, as police had blocked access to the lightrail, preventing people from escaping SPD's brutality. They had also put out a citywide call for every available officer to respond to the protest, so their numbers were overwhelming. Image

I think it's important to talk about what happened this past Sunday at the protest against the Seattle Police union. SPD claims it was a riot. In fact, officers cornered protesters in alley, deployed chemical weapons, and broke multiple laws while committing widespread violence. I know most of you following me already know this stuff... The lies coming from Seattle Police have become monotonous and completely predictable. But plenty of people still believe them, and SPD is pushing this fiction to local news, who regurgitate it without question.

CW: Police Violence

Oh my god. Seattle Police attacked a crowd of people at Cal Anderson yesterday after their officers assaulted a bystander. Police were supposed to help a person in crisis. Instead they arrested a black person at the park with their 6-year old child. This is truly a perfect metaphor for why the Seattle Police Department must be defunded. Someone in crisis needed help. They didn't need a gang of officers with weapons. And instead of helping, police escalated the situation, hurt people, and put another black person in jail.

Huge follow-up on the car attack committed by Seattle Police a few nights ago. If there was any doubt as to what happened, here is the officer driving the unmarked car, admitting to driving onto the sidewalk. He claims he was trying to catch someone, so why didn't he stop? Here is more background on the attack...

We need to talk about Iconic Global, the private security/mercenary force that has been patrolling the streets of Capitol Hill for the past couple months. They are heavily armed, known to escalate conflicts, and last night appeared to be aiding Seattle Police during arrests. Let's start with last night... There was a noticeably large police presence in the neighborhood, with SPD circling the block around Cal Anderson all night, in their usual SUVs and undercover cars. Also circling the neighborhood were vehicles from Iconic Global.

A few days ago we discovered that Seattle Police had hired a former KIRO reporter to work their PR campaigns, which seemed completely and absolutely unethical. I've just learned they also hired Jennifer Sullivan, the KOMO reporter who was charged with covering the police beat. ImageImage If you ever wonder why local "news" coverage of the Seattle Police Department seems to be wildly inaccurate and slanted towards whatever absurd claims SPD makes, it is because those reporters are auditioning for a job working directly for Seattle Police.

This is wildly irresponsible, and should be deleted immediately. Publishing protesters' license plates, implying they were there to cause destruction because *a pickup truck had rocks in it*? The brazen disregard these people have for the safety of these young people is obscene. People on KIRO are referring to these young protesters as "domestic terrorists." They have done nothing wrong, but media, city hall, and the Seattle Police Chief are more than happy to paint them as terrorists if it helps in their fight against defunding the department.
