Swavlamban 2024 - Prof Bhatnagar- Without research in materials, if you just integrated assemblies from outside that is not true indigenisation. "How can we overcome a preference to money in students & parents?"
By the govt investing and making STEM R&D financially attractive! 10 years and the needle hasn't moved an inch!

Standing committee on Defence reports are a goldmine.

First up - Dr Kamat laying it out -
We do not invest enough. Image Another, I want to say farce, but lets say creative accounting was to announce 25% of defence budget to folks other than DRDO.

Remember 35% of defence R&D budget is black aka stategic systems. Image

Naked powerplay is being given all sorts of excuses. DRDO chairman will be head only & not secretary r&d which will now be a Babu. Ostensibly so drdo chief can focus on r&d alone without additional burden. Exactly who buys this bull? All this "reform" talk is just smoke& mirrors. Another gem "currently does not have any major new project in its hands." Exactly wtf is being planned when such rubbish is being pushed through to media? Unbelievable that people are equating DARPA with DRDO. Why isn't an ex-dae or ex-isro chairman in the committee?

Might sound cynical but it's not al doom & gloom wrt India. We've always known that the Americans went after the wrong target, twice. And in the process enriched the ones that really were the reason. But supapawah competition nonsense has meant sleeping with the one poisoning their milk. All this, despite finding enemy no 1 there. And this is bipartisan. So you can't put the blame on the republicans or the democrats alone. Even now, playing nice with Iran would've meant Afgh would've had a big neighbor that could've helped with stability. But no.

How did countries undertake vaccine manufacturing supply chain management? When did orders come in? What were the bottlenecks? Did production meet projections? Is current and future projected mfg rate enough? Questions without consolidated answers. So, thread - Also - Did India order vaccines too late or take measures to rampup early enough? Could funding given in April not be given in Q3/4 2020 so we could've had adequate vaccines by now? What are the supply chain measures taken by countries & vaccine makers?

What is the usual number of hours of O2 that hospitals have at any given time? Who procures O2? How does the process work during normal times? How is it transported? What type of O2 was exported? What is the lead time to get requested amount of O2 normally? Who decides? Questions Anyone got any answers? Who produces? What is their regular production rate? How quickly & to what rate can they ramp up if push comes to shove? What are the bottlenecks to rush additional O2? Where are they stockpiled & by whom? Who does forecasting & planning? More Qns.

Not enough $$ for nanoscale W powder but emergency procurement of APFSDS rounds. Not enough $$ for forging equipment but hundreds of engine orders. Not enough $$ for spec. furnaces but import spec alloys. Not enough $$ for high purity materials but for finished product import. "Your IR sensor is a suck"
Meanwhile developer goes shopping around the world to get high purity Te because no local source exists and nobody in their right mind will setup a plant for it because you want 5 kilos today and may want 20/year ten years down the line.
