She quit in 2011, came back in 2013, quit again in 2016, came back in 2017, & quit again in 2023.

For most of the past decade, she was in powerful & influential positions – Editor, Director of Editorial Strategy, & Chairperson.

A thread on why her complaint below is hollow If one were to do a pre-Malini and post-Malini comparison of The Hindu, the "entrenched bias" that @MaliniP talks about, was actually entrenched during her powerful tenure.

The paper had become virulently anti-BJP under her tenure. Sample this article by her in 2018. (1/n) Image

The Editors Guild is often in the news. Do you know what the Editors Guild actually does? Nothing. They do nothing meaningful at all.

A short thread on what they do (or rather don't do!). (1/n) Editors Guild came up with a "Code of Practice for Journalists" way back in 2007.

And that too, they copied from Britain. These people can't even write guidelines without relying on what the British did. No wonder they are so servile. (2/n)

Since @svaradarajan is the flavour of the season now, and since most seem to be thinking that this is the 1st and the only time he has lied, fabricated and spread bile - I think we should take a trip down memory lane about this guy.

Thread (1/n) @svaradarajan If:
Gandhis step down from leadership

and:
Modi wins in 2024

then:
Indian Union will cease to exist in 2029.

That's an actual prediction made by
@svaradarajan and his team.

In 2018, KCR thundered:

"What business does the Prime Minister have to build roads in 6 lakh villages in the country? Aapko kya kaam hai bhai?".

He is an ardent opposer of PM Gram Sadak Yojana. Will scrapping it be part of his new party, Bharat Rashtra Samiti's, manifesto? In 2018, KCR thundered:

"What business does the central government have in hospitals, schools, education, municipalities?"

Will KCR announce the scrapping of some of these ministries as part of his new party, Bharat Rashtra Samiti's, manifesto?

Sequence of events:

1. Alleged comedian Munawar was getting cancelled everywhere because of his crass comments on the Gods of Hinduism.

2. Telangana CM's son, KCR, invites Munawar to Hyderabad to exhibit his alleged comedy. (1/n) 3. Raja Singh threatens to protest and cancel Munawar's show. KCR provides 100s of police as protection to Munawar's venue (some say police were more in attendance than the audience).

4. Raja Singh releases another video, using exact same cuss words that Munawar uses (2/n)

In 2008, SoniaG's govt allots 2G spectrum to 9 companies. Each company paid 1650cr.

One such company, Unitech, soon sells 60% of stake to Telenor for 6120cr.

If 60% = 6120cr, then 100% = 10,200cr

So, actual value: 10,200 * 9 = 91,800cr
And, actual received: 1650*9 = 14,850cr The CAG formulated a range of "presumptive losses" based on such sales and also auction of 3G spectrum.

That range was a whopping 57,666 crores to 1,76,645 crores.

Journo @the_hindu: You amended the flag code. It is benefitting China because you are importing.

Kishan Reddy: No, we only are stitching flags in our villages with self help groups.

The Hindu: Kishan Reddy defends flag import.

A full rebuttal here: opindia.com/2022/08/the-hi… Image Flag code, 2002: “The National Flag shall be made of hand-spun and hand-woven wool/cotton/silk khadi bunting”.

Amendment in 2021: “...Flag shall be made of hand-spun and hand-woven or machine-made, cotton, polyester, wool, silk khadi bunting”.

Media: Modi is importing flag.

"Data Point" is a regular feature in @the_hindu. They published an interesting survey result today.

As usual, they wanted to show a doomsday situation, showing 6 graphs. Turns out the survey shows a great picture of our economy over the past year or so. Let's see. 1/n Graph #1: 70% of Urban and 55% of rural folks were able to "save substantially for their future needs", last year.

Awesome numbers these are - 70% of Urban and 55% of rural! Would these numbers have been possible if the handling of the economy was bad? (2/n)

Report in @the_hindu today.

"The church built a structure atop the hillock where the tribal people practised Sarna worship.

As a result, the Sarna believers were forced to go a few metres downhill to worship, but only under the strict supervision of the police." This story of how RSS is helping the villages is fascinating.

RSS affiliated Vanvasi Kalyan Kendra (VKK) worked with the govt & ensured that the village had road, electricity; the villagers have pucca homes; helped villagers establish business and earn higher than ever before.

A thread, on the "politically explosive" press conference that the likes of NDTV won't tell you.

1. KCR called Yogi as the "man with a lungi from UP".

2. KCR said UP's per capita is lower than Sikkim and also said that it is worth committing suicide. 3. Telangana's per capita is higher than national average. You (BJP) have no right to come here and talk about your "munda mopi" policies. "Munda mopi" roughly translates to Widow.

4. @annamalai_k is a "daddamma" and "sannasi". Both translate to "fool".

Case update, per media reports:

1. Innova purchased in 2019, but still has TR only.
2. Former Mayor of Hyd who is now a corporator from MIM called by police for questioning.
3. 2 Majors, 3 Minors arrested.
4. Many political leaders from TRS and MIM involved. Case update, per media reports:

1. The 5 accused actually targeted two girls. "Misbehaved" with one of them while getting down stairs of the pub itself - the girl excused herself.

2. They promised to "behave" and hence the victim went along with them.

Over the past few days, I was collecting snapshots of how @malinip's unbiased newspaper, @the_hindu was covering the Bihar election campaign.

Would like to begin this thread with the cheap cartoon published yesterday (based on exit polls).

Who has the last laugh now? We were told by @the_hindu that the "Grand Alliance works as one unit" and NDA is "struggling".

I don't understand this "united opposition will defeat Modi" logic. We have enough proof that many parties allying to contest against one man, automatically turns as an advantage to that one man. Not to the "united opposition".

You want proof? 2009: "Mahakutami" in united AP. TDP+TRS+Left against YSR. YSR won that election single handedly (he had Chiranjeevi's PRP to work against too).

While most commentary on the #HyderabadRains has focussed on govt's response post the rains, it is staggering how the Met department (IMD) gets away with rank incompetency in their predictions. Take a look at their prediction for yesterday. "Heavy rain in isolated places in Telangana" kehte. There was a DELUGE in Hyderabad last night (average 15cm rainfall!)! A deluge.

Why couldn't IMD give a specific warning regarding this, so that preparations could be better?

Sequence of events.

Debate and Vote for Agri reforms bill scheduled on Sunday. Agreed by all parties.

1. RS scheduled to end at 1pm.

2. Few minutes before 1pm, GoI recommended extension of session because Minister was anyway replying and next step is voting.

(1/n) 3. Some opposition parties (note, not all) did NOT agree for an extension of the session. This is a normal practice. They wanted to postpone to next day.

4. Govt didn't agree, because debate is already over and minister is replying to it.

5. Opposition rushed to well.

Democracy is in danger when public mandate is subverted. Like in Maharashtra. Not when the government people chose takes the decisions they said they would. Democracy is not in danger just because @derekobrienmp , @asadowaisi and @RahulGandhi shout so.

Democracy is in danger when opposition MLAs are lured into the ruling party, even after the ruling party enjoys a comfortable majority. Like in Telangana.

A day after @MaliniP was announced as chairperson of @the_hindu -there was an Op-Ed piece titled "Should the Gandhis disengage from the Congress?"

First thought is why is an obvious question being discussed! But then the format of the piece is interesting. It's a Q&A. 1/n Image The Question "Should the Gandhis disengage from the Congress?" was not posed to independent analysts. Was not posed to editors. Was not posed to leaders of different parties.

It was posed to 2 Congressmen! What objectivity do you then expect from them? Image

Just about 10 days back, KCR wanted clarification from Modi on the rumours of another lockdown.

And now he wants to reimpose a lockdown on Hyderabad. What is with this swinging moods?! On March 7, KCR tells us that his whole party will not wear masks. And that paracatemol is cure for Corona.

On March 14th, KCR tells us that having no plan to combat Corona is equivalent to a crime. And announces shutdown of schools

The swinging moods!

In addition, funding from:

Meanwhile, some serious cracks have happened in ecosystem.

The Hindu started disowning Kejriwal & The Print promptly picked up where TH left.

Article on this strange phenomenon! Surely, it cannot be about health because same ecosystem is praising UT! myind.net/Home/viewArtic… The Hindu is upset with Kejriwal because he "paraded them with panache, ahead of the 2020 Delhi Assembly election" and "AAP’s manifesto promised patriotism courses in schools". When the Doklam standoff was happening, this exact playbook was employed the "we want running commentary" gang. China occupied our territory, Modi is weak, Modi sold out, Modi doesn't know anything, Bhutan is slipping away, Modi is silent - and what not. (1/n) Cut to a few months later. The "we want running commentary" gang was amusingly silent on how the Parliamentary committee headed by Shashi Tharoor (with RaGa also in it) actually praised the Modi government in the handling of Doklam, opindia.com/2018/09/hashi-… (2/n)
