weird interaction with a student this week. they kept coming up with weird "facts" ("greek is actually a combination of four other languages") that left me baffled. i said let's look this stuff up together, and they said ok, i'll open a search bar, and they opened... ch*tgpt and i was like "this is not a search bar" and they were like "yes it is, you can search for anything in here"

this is just based on vibes but i think part of the problem with the current reception of stuff like star wars, etc, is that people haven't ever watched a single fucking thing that the original makers pulled from. no westerns, no samurai flicks. no fucking clue how they work. when people got furious about luke skywalker not still being a cool badass guy who personally wins the fight i blinked maybe a thousand times, conservatively, because i was like "he's?? the old tired master now??? glory is empty to him?? did you guys not read the fucking memo??"

let's review:
-there is no ao3 "algorithm." fics show up in order of being posted/updated. you can sort by other criteria yourself with the drop-down menu.
-ao3 does not tag fics. authors tag fics. content is missing a warning? that's not a flawed algorithm, that's human error. -ao3 does not allow material that is illegal in the country which is their base of operations (the US). if you are describing content you find distasteful, feel free to choose a different word.
-there. is. no. algorithm.
