Black history is a radical place of study because it requires one to rethink who is the subject of history--and on a very simple level, for children, who is the focus of a story. For that reason, it will always cause discomfort, even for ppl who claim to be liberal the disquiet is what makes it exciting, imo. but if you're used to "hard truths" in education only meaning "bluntly telling students that white supremacist patriarchy is the only possible system" then the disquiet is an existential threat
