There's one thing I wanted to talk about that I didn't in that thread yesterday and it has to do with the Throne Room scene in The Last Jedi. George Lucas talked a lot about how these movies aren't meant to be rewatched. And home video has really taken some of the magic out of the spectacle, but the stories and the emotion are the most important part. Freeze framing movies doesn't help anyone but cosplayers.

I’ve been seeing some interpretations of The Last Jedi in my mentions that are making me scratch my head and wonder if I saw the same movie. So I thought I’d tackle a few of them in a thread. First, I’m turning off replies because I don’t have time to get into it with anyone, let alone everyone.

So... I got a card in the mail today that was pretty clearly a scam.

It was an “exclusive invitation” to make my “writing dreams come true.”

I subscribe to enough writerly things that I’m sure my address got sold on a mailing list. This thing is next level bad. And it’s... it feels gross.

I want to tweet about it just in case we can spread the word enough that no one gets roped in.

It’s time for Rogue One... The opening of this movie is so intense. And I love how sparse it is. Gary Whitta and the writers who put their mark on this script were definitely Kasdan students, letting early dialogue and situations imply more than they said.

On one side of Excalibur, it is written: "Take Me Up." On the other side, it is written: "Cast Me Away."

Excalibur is a symbol of the responsibility of power, and Luke's lightsaber across his journey represents this. Set shortly after Return of the Jedi (some time between 3 and 5 years), the Luke Skywalker we see on The Mandalorian is still in the "Take Me Up" phase of his use of the laser sword.

He's building upon what he knew of his training.
