So, what the Beeb is trying to do here is the same thing they did with the rail strikes: picking some arbitrary higher salaries within the general profession and inviting readers to conclude that those on strike are spoiled brats. Here's some other facts: /1 Job titles in academia aren't universal. Someone on an early research fellow contract might be called an RA, but so might someone who gets paid hourly. TAs, in my experience, are all hourly paid and definitely *not* earning what was the starting FT lecturer salary in 2010. 2/
