Never forget why student debt exists. It's a direct response to the student protest movement of the 1960s. Too many working-class people were getting an education and because they weren't in debt up to their eyeballs they were free to follow their consciences. Well, we fixed that https://t.co/vTvz1Lt2n4

The financial incentive for student debt is certainly there, and it's undeniable that simple greed for profit is at play. But they saw an "educated proletariat" as a threat and responded accordingly; the free cash flow out of working people's pockets is just the icing on the cake

people think living in an anarchist jurisdiction is so cool, like it's all just burning & looting, it actually sucks, i had an assembly meeting this morning that ran like 2 hours late, so i missed the maglev home, had to reschedule my appointment at the free mental health clinic such a shitty week overall. i got a splinter in my thumb picking vegetables for my voluntary 4-hour monthly shift at the neighborhood urban permaculture farm and they voted to put the free childcare facility all the way next to the food forest which is like a 5 minute maglev ride

tired of sectarian drama, lets create syntheses instead of using our various individual theses and antitheses for online penis fencing

i'll start. primmies & transhumanists are both correct. we should use advanced technology to enable everyone to have a hunter gatherer lifestyle (i'm not the first person to make this suggestion) palladiummag.com/2020/04/01/the…

just putting it out there into the universe: pearl river delta commune, a federation of free cities governed by popular assemblies, world's largest urban area, economy the size of italy, libertarian municipalism applied at the largest scale currently possible... could it happen? ImageImage most of what ive read of bookchin so far as been pretty oriented towards revolutions in the global north but im hoping that once i get to some other writers in social ecology and related milieus that i will encounter texts that situate these ideas in other contexts

whether you view the post-9/11 changes in the national psyche of the US as a great patriotic "coming together" or as the opening of a new and disturbing phase of american militarism, jingoism and xenophobia is determined by your level of privilege imo 19 years ago there was no left to speak of, online or offline, and if you didn't participate in the patriotic frenzy people legitimately treated you like you were crazy or evil. the early phases of OIF/OEF had 90%+ support among the general public

i'm tired of talking about fighting fascism and preventing ecological collapse. i want to talk about how to slap a magnetosphere on a low-gravity planet so it can be terraformed, safety mechanisms for nanotechnology, or which of our commensal species we should uplift first (i vote dogs btw)

Of all the texts lost to history, the two I'm missing the most right now are Zeno's Republic and the Desnad, the holy book of Mazdakism (mostly because of what I'm currently working on, so sorry if I left out your faves)

Any lost books on your mind? If I can't get either of those, I will settle for

1) literally any english-language reference about the korean people's association in manchuria

2) any edition of the sadly out of print last three volumes of Bookchin's Third Revolution series that doesn't cost more than $100

this genre of tweet encapsulates everything wrong with democrats. imagine some of the most powerful people on the planet wringing their hands, saying that maybe someone should do something about all the problems, putting the onus for change on you while they keep cashing checks ImageImageImageImage "pass it on" - to whom? are you asking me to petition my government for redress of grievances? because we have been out here doing that for months - some of us, for years. your pigs respond to us with batons and chemical weapons and none of you lift a finger to change any of it

22 million renters face eviction by September. The $600 increase in unemployment ends on June 31st. No federal aid to households since the $1200 at the end of March.

If nothing changes in the coming weeks, expect unrest. The uprisings of early June will look mild by comparison. Join or start a tenant's union or other housing justice organization in your community, because solidarity and mutual aid are going to be the only things keeping a roof over you and your neighbors' heads - and much sooner than you might think.

thinking about how the occam's razor solution to the fermi paradox is that we are the earliest intelligent life to emerge - the cosmic firstborn - the immense weight of responsibility that puts on us - in light of our ongoing failure to operate even a single planet sustainably 🙃 to be fair we have barely our collective adolescence as a sentient species, but it has been a pretty awkward adolescence so far and we are exhibiting pointlessly self-destructive and cringeworthy behavior that i am happy no other more mature sentient species is around to observe

Comply with the the state, or disappear into a hole indefinitely. This is the "law and order" they want to impose.

In Argentina they are still finding bodies of los desaparecidos from the Pinochet junta, 30 years later.

This is why we fight now. So we don't get to that point. Chicago PD had (has?) off-the-books black sites for torturing suspects back in 2015. Compare this with accounts of arrested protestors this week in NYC and elsewhere

We are already so close to the cliff we can see over the edge. Some of us have already fallen in Image

apropos of nothing, an observation: in the event the public is not permitted to have redress of grievances from their government using the remedies offered by the first amendment, the constitution of the united states provides for additional remedies through the second amendment i think it is important for people in positions of power right now to be extremely thoughtful and deliberate about the choices they make with regard to our present situation. please consider acceding to the will of your constituents when they express it peacefully while you can.

i just want to remind people that as far as framing the debate is concerned, defunding/abolishing the police are both compromise positions and aren't really that radical in terms of all possible ways of preventing police violence both defunding and abolition can be accomplished peacefully and democratically on the local level, you can start with funding reductions and work towards abolition incrementally, etc

Now that the flowers of multiracial working-class rebellion are blooming all across this country, it's useful to revisit the first time that the American ruling class was challenged in this way, and how they chose to respond.

We did not always have a racial caste system here... Image mid 17th-century colonial Virginia was no utopia of equality, but there were white planters and Black planters, free Blacks and white indentured servants, existing in a social hierarchy not tied directly to race. The words "white" and "black" were not yet applied to people.

liberals laughing about "obamagate" are going to be really surprised when they learn he is a stone cold war criminal and murderer although the more i think about it idk if they could even process that if it was given to them. their brains would destroy the information like a rejected organ transplant. can't imagine team blue would ever do bad stuff. just totally different and incompatible reality tunnels

There is a persistent confusion on the right about "freedom." It's not just "negative freedom," the absence of de jure interference from others, but "positive freedom," the ability to meaningfully exercise de facto self-determination. "Freedom" to die of disease is not freedom. This applies to centrist liberals as well: sure, everyone is theoretically equal under the law, but cannot realize that equality because of a lack of the material resources necessary to live. Ask a homeless person dying of treatable causes how much their civil rights mean to them

i would like very much to be rid of these people. don't really want to wait until mid-2021 to do it, but that would give sufficient time to organize a movement behind left municipalist candidates for every contested seat seattle.gov/democracyvouch… i wish the neighborhood action councils or something similar had taken off instead of falling apart. without an organized base any candidate would just be wasting their time. would we have to start from scratch? anything we can build on?

i think of myself as an empathetic and peaceful person and i feel guilty about random things i remember saying to others years ago, but when i see stuff like that video of the two white supremacists coming out of that pickup and shooting that guy, i feel like a different person i'm also a problem-solver and if i ever ran into those two individuals i would solve that problem on the spot and the only thing i would feel would be the recoil. i would sleep peacefully at night for the rest of my life. i don't know if that makes me a bad person but i dont care
