Never forget why student debt exists. It's a direct response to the student protest movement of the 1960s. Too many working-class people were getting an education and because they weren't in debt up to their eyeballs they were free to follow their consciences.  The financial incentive for student debt is certainly there, and it's undeniable that simple greed for profit is at play. But they saw an "educated proletariat" as a threat and responded accordingly; the free cash flow out of working people's pockets is just the icing on the cake

people think living in an anarchist jurisdiction is so cool, like it's all just burning & looting, it actually sucks, i had an assembly meeting this morning that ran like 2 hours late, so i missed the maglev home, had to reschedule my appointment at the free mental health clinic such a shitty week overall. i got a splinter in my thumb picking vegetables for my voluntary 4-hour monthly shift at the neighborhood urban permaculture farm and they voted to put the free childcare facility all the way next to the food forest which is like a 5 minute maglev ride

whether you view the post-9/11 changes in the national psyche of the US as a great patriotic "coming together" or as the opening of a new and disturbing phase of american militarism, jingoism and xenophobia is determined by your level of privilege imo 19 years ago there was no left to speak of, online or offline, and if you didn't participate in the patriotic frenzy people legitimately treated you like you were crazy or evil. the early phases of OIF/OEF had 90%+ support among the general public

22 million renters face eviction by September. The $600 increase in unemployment ends on June 31st. No federal aid to households since the $1200 at the end of March.

If nothing changes in the coming weeks, expect unrest. The uprisings of early June will look mild by comparison. Join or start a tenant's union or other housing justice organization in your community, because solidarity and mutual aid are going to be the only things keeping a roof over you and your neighbors' heads - and much sooner than you might think.

apropos of nothing, an observation: in the event the public is not permitted to have redress of grievances from their government using the remedies offered by the first amendment, the constitution of the united states provides for additional remedies through the second amendment i think it is important for people in positions of power right now to be extremely thoughtful and deliberate about the choices they make with regard to our present situation. please consider acceding to the will of your constituents when they express it peacefully while you can.

i just want to remind people that as far as framing the debate is concerned, defunding/abolishing the police are both compromise positions and aren't really that radical in terms of all possible ways of preventing police violence both defunding and abolition can be accomplished peacefully and democratically on the local level, you can start with funding reductions and work towards abolition incrementally, etc

Now that the flowers of multiracial working-class rebellion are blooming all across this country, it's useful to revisit the first time that the American ruling class was challenged in this way, and how they chose to respond.

We did not always have a racial caste system here... Image mid 17th-century colonial Virginia was no utopia of equality, but there were white planters and Black planters, free Blacks and white indentured servants, existing in a social hierarchy not tied directly to race. The words "white" and "black" were not yet applied to people.

There is a persistent confusion on the right about "freedom." It's not just "negative freedom," the absence of de jure interference from others, but "positive freedom," the ability to meaningfully exercise de facto self-determination. "Freedom" to die of disease is not freedom. This applies to centrist liberals as well: sure, everyone is theoretically equal under the law, but cannot realize that equality because of a lack of the material resources necessary to live. i think of myself as an empathetic and peaceful person and i feel guilty about random things i remember saying to others years ago, but when i see stuff like that video of the two white supremacists coming out of that pickup and shooting that guy, i feel like a different person i'm also a problem-solver and if i ever ran into those two individuals i would solve that problem on the spot and the only thing i would feel would be the recoil. i would sleep peacefully at night for the rest of my life. i don't know if that makes me a bad person but i dont care
