My thoughts on critiques of #TranslatorsOnTheCover as being unrelated to pay/working conditions 1/ 1st, things are different in France, where translators have a union & 33% of published novels are translations as opposed to 1-3% in Eng. This already makes lit. translation a visible, accepted profession. Fr. readers aren't considered to be allergic to reading in translation. 2/

I ❤️ that everyone's sharing Keene's "Translating Poetry, Translating Blackness," but the fact we keep sharing that 1 essay shows how lacking translation studies has been in engaging w/Blackness, how few Black TS scholars there are in US/UK, & how we privilege only a few of them. I want to #CiteBlackWomen and note some Black women whose intellectual and creative work in translation studies has been helpful to me.
