When people talk about “Latinos” wanting to be white it’s like…there are Latinos who ARE white. It’s not a secret. It’s not a conspiracy. “Latino” is one of the most imprecise categories ever and has been for a long time including in the US Census. Black Latinos, indigenous Latinos, mixed race, all of the above. Puerto Ricans, immigrants, native born. Let’s be precise in your condemnations if you’re going to make sweeping generalizations.

Impact. In 2014 while I was a reporter for The New York Times, I traveled to Georgia for a story about the abusive levels of discipline that Black girls were experiencing in school. The piece revolved around the story of 12 year old Mikia Hutchings She had been involved in a juvenile criminal case for scribbling graffiti in a bathroom stall. This morning, ten years later, Mikia's attorney reached out to tell me she will share her testimony with the United Nations today.
