This evening in @thenewsminute’s session with @ptrmadurai, he said something very unheard of from India’s politicians: When the pandemic is over, we will get TN’s finances in shape & build world class urban public transport systems. Comparable to the best in the world! (1/n) This is radical not only because your typical Minister type wants to build flyovers. But the intention is truly revolutionary because it reveals an understanding of what underpins good governance. @dhanyarajendran @PoojaPrasanna4 (2/n)

In spaces on FM2 and its portrayal of Tamil Eelam, with @RKRadhakrishn @Ahmedshabbir20 @TMVRaghav, it was a healthy airing of diverse, sometimes contradictory views. My points were three (1/n) 1/ Am not a fan of bans; FM2 shouldn’t be banned. Yet, grievances are real regardless of indemnifying itself as a work of fiction. It presents a certain non-contextual narrative of Tamil Eelam and, from Indian state’s perspective largely. (2/n)

Call for evidence below! @DrSYQuraishi @fayedsouza While the pressure on women to toe the community/family patriarchy’s vote is undeniable, the fact that women from 1970s have deviated from the male vote when beneficial speaks to their quiet autonomy, rebellion; solidarity across communal/caste lines (/n)

An urban citizenship discussion yesterday highlighted the struggle people have drawing lines! One group says sexual abuse in public places isn’t a civic issue even as they champion sustainable, inclusive cities. So we ran those campaigns outside the umbrella (1/n) Another says fighting for sanitation worker rights, payment dues, PF etc., is ideologically communist; cannot be brought under civic issues! Never mind that their roads, homes and city stinks if not for civic sanitation workers! (2/n)
