In times like this, people often hate hearing "go vote". But really what we mean by "vote" is "build political power", and yes, that is still the answer. 1/x The district attorney who will decide whether or not to prosecute doctors who provide abortions. The school board member whose oversight of curriculum will shape our children's worldview and thus our future. The county executive who'll determine what health funding to prioritize.

The senate made clear tonight that they consider a rule worth more than Americans’ constitutionally protected equal access to the ballot.

But here’s what it’s like to live in Texas without the access to online voter registration as required by the #JohnLewisFreedomAct Without online voter reg, Texans must get certified as a Deputy Voter Registrar in order to legally register voters. The next course required for certification isn’t until February in the county where I’m camping out this week—well past the voter reg deadline for the Mar. primary

some personal news: if you follow me on Instagram you’ve already heard—excited to share that I’m spending the next year living out of my van Barb full time to travel the state & register voters across Texas. In Texas this presents a unique challenge: in order to legally register voters here you have to take a 90 minute course, an exam & register as a Deputy Voter Registrar w/ the county.

& that’s for each county where you plan to register voters.

& in Texas there are 254 counties.

Seeing reports on the news that entire families died in their homes overnight due to carbon monoxide poisoning. Homeless people have been found dead on medians in the middle of the street. Cell service is down. No word from the state on power restoration.
