10 Lessons from My 40s.

- A Thread

As I reflect on my journey through my 40s, I have compiled ten invaluable lessons that I believe hold value for individuals in their 20s, 30s, 40s, or even 50s. 1/10 Time Flies: Enjoy the Present Moment: One of the most important things I've realized in my forties is how quickly time passes. It's crucial to embrace each moment and make the most of it. Cherish the present because it's the only time that truly belongs to us.

How to find the ONE THING that will change your life in 2023.

- A thread. A new year is on the horizon and many of us will soon start making new year resolutions to improve several aspects of our lives.

For me: my new resolutions typically fail before the end of January. I will bet yours probably won't survive January too.

May I suggest another way?

The top question I ask people who are getting married is, "Will you enjoy life with him if he doesn't change at all?"

Why? Adults don't make significant changes.

Our values/virtues are mostly set by 25 so we remain fundamentally the same and only make a few cosmetic changes. If your happiness is contingent on him/her making a few changes, please don't say "I do".

He/she probably won't change and you'll both be miserably married.

Him: How do I achieve my goals and ambitions? My parents are really poor and there is no one to help me move forward.

Me: One step at a time:
1. Start with research.
2. Decide on your strategy.
3. Set intermediate goals.
4. Create a vision board.
5. Outwork everyone.

THREAD 👇 Step 1. Start with research.

Find someone who has achieved something similar to your goals and ask:

1. What did they do?
2. How did they do it?
3. How did they start?

It's a lot easier to dream big when you know someone who has done it in the past.

South Africa is an oxymoron: a few blocks of incredible beauty surrounded by huge swathes of devasting poverty.

It's probably the most unequal society in the world - extreme opulence beside extreme hopelessness.

This isn't about Zuma; it's about the gross inequality in SA. When people feel that the custodians of societal values have broken the contracts holding the society together, they feel emboldened to do the same.

The political elites in South Africa broke the contract; the masses are just reciprocating the gesture.

Isabelle Kamariza (@solidisa) of Solid Africa (@SolidAfrica) feeds almost 5,000 hospital patients (free of charge) every day.

She believes food is medicine so she provides food for patients who would otherwise go hungry.

I am meeting too many women who are 100% responsible for their households while the "man" sits and watches TV.

What's going on, guys? Life can rob a man of the ability to provide but it can't become the new normal.

You have to sweat and hustle until you're able to provide for your family again.

===

He who does not provide for his own household has denied the faith and is worse than an infidel.

Why do religious scams work?

I have been pondering this question since I saw a documentary on Bushiri/Mboro/TB Joshua.

I think it's because humans seek SIMPLE answers to COMPLEX problems.

- A short thread. Why am I not financially successful?

Complex solution:

- Maybe I need to develop more skills.
- Maybe systemic (country-wide)issues are responsible.
- Maybe I need to save more.
- Maybe, I need to start a side gig

Simple solution:
- I need to pray harder (enemies!).

Money vs. Life.

- A thread

___

An investment banker went to Bali, Indonesia on vacation.

He visited a small, fishing village and sat down to talk to the fishermen.

He told them about his 12-hour workdays, his six-figure salary, and the prestige of working on Wall Street. "In 30 years, I will be worth a few million dollars and retire", He added. "After retiring, I will move to a place like this and buy a nice house and fish all day and sleep whenever I feel like sleeping and wake up whenever I feel like waking up and enjoy a quiet, peaceful life.

I finally bought a significant amount of $BTC for my personal portfolio yesterday.

Why?

I studied some stuff that suggests there may be something there.

I have expressed a lot of skepticism about it so I need to let you know that my skepticism has thawed a bit.

Caveat...

👇 Caveat.

Crypto should still not be your primary investment vehicle cos of its volatility. But it can be a small part of a well-balanced portfolio.

IMO, it's dangerous to put money you're not prepared to lose in crypto. But it's a good instrument for your most aggressive bucket.
