When I worked at Apple (mid-90's) I worked on a project to build a color Mac with the small footprint of a Mac Plus or Mac SE which used a display technology I've never seen elsewhere. (thread) (This was brought to mind by @Foone's huge and fascinating thread on display technologies )

With yesterday's Twitter excitement, a note: "Insider Risk" work is NOT fundamentally about the idea that you don't trust your employees. [thread] Insider Risk controls are about limiting the capacity of people so you can be confident that your company's obligations to maintain security and privacy aren't dependent on avoiding mistakes.

.@LLDierks and I have been heartsick the last few days because our cat Casey, whom we've had for 16 years, went missing on Thanksgiving. We don't know what happened -- he presumably got out when guests were coming and going. We put up signs, etc.; no calls or anything, even though he probably wouldn't go far, and our Park Slope Brooklyn neighborhood is easy to poster. We assumed he was dead: it's been in the low 30's every night here.

802.3cd Ethernet defines 50 Gbps/lane optical networking - at this speed, each light signal travels only about 7.5 mm (0.3 inch) before the laser has to send the next pulse. (thread) The protocol adds some error correction, which raises the actual data rate to 53.125 Gbps, but it then sends two bits in each pulse (4 levels), so the baud rate is a mere 26.5625 billion hertz.
