On this day in 1187, Sultan Salahuddin Ayubi liberated the city of Jerusalem after inflicting a huge defeat on Crusaders at the Battle of Hittin in July. Salahuddin reconquered nearly all territory of the Kingdom of Jerusalem after less than 90 years of Christian rule. “In Sultan Salah ud Din's era, no Islamic scholar had more influence than Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jillani, and Salah ud Din was strongly influenced and aided by him and his pupils who formed majority of the Ayyubid army”
