Thoughts on art:

You'll learn a LOT from writing reams of material you ultimately end up discarding. Some stuff just isn't meant to see the light of publication, but looking back on it, you'll glean ideas and concepts that you can use in better works. This is particularly useful if you're writing memoirs or autofiction. If something crazy/significant/worth writing about happens to you, I don't think it's a good idea to publish something about it ASAP. But writing about it ASAP solely for your own edification? Smart.

From the book:

I've always neglected my health. When I moved to Mexico, it became REALLY bad. At the end of last year, I tipped the scales at 270 pounds. That's embarrassing. And borderline life-threatening. I'm also getting older. I had to do something about it. For most of my life, I haven't owned a car and I've lived in cities where I had to walk everywhere. In particular, in Budapest, I lived in the city center and rarely took the metro/buses/trams. So I had to engage in a minimum amount of physical activity that kept my weight down.

Clearing out more junk from my brain as part of the writing process. Cycling back to my odd habit of moving from place to place as an adult.

I do not like my hometown. At all. I wouldn't say I hate it, but having to move back there for whatever reason would be hellish. I grew up in Syracuse, a small Rust Belt city in upstate New York whose most famous cultural exports are Tom Kenny and Bobcat Goldthwait. It was sustained by GM and Carrier: when those plants closed in the 90's and 00's, the city sunk into a pit of poverty and hopelessness.

Is it déclassé to admit my work is more influenced by musicians and contemporaries than by "classic" poets?

Before starting Terror House, I rarely read poetry aside from what was posted on Fluland. My themes are derived from novelists, my style is taken from singer-songwriters. Nothing wrong with the classics (well okay, there's a LOT of classic shit that needs to be flushed), but I don't see how, say, Tennyson or Poe is even remotely relevant to what I'm doing.

Rhyming and meter are EXTREMELY difficult to pull off without sounding like a tool.

Frantz Fanon, a popular Marxist postcolonial philosopher who fought with Algerian rebels against the French, was a CIA operative. The CIA considered him so important that they flew him to Maryland for experimental medical treatment.

CIA = Communist Insurgency Agency. People who sperged out at BAP pointing out the CIA's support for communist insurgencies across the third world can't explain this.

It's literally on Wikipedia that Fanon was a glowie. That's how comfortable the people in charge are that nobody will see the truth.

Damn, who's that guy in the portrait behind Trump?

I'll save you the Google search: it's Andrew Jackson.

Not Alexander "S**c*de by Proxy" Hamilton. Andrew Jackson. Image This guy Gnome is a known liar and mentally disturbed individual who hides behind being "saved" (since nobody can verify such a thing) so he can keep lying and being mentally ill on the Internet. Don't engage him. Pray that he gets the help he needs.

HEY KIDS! History lesson time!

What do you call a political system where corporations from Google to Facebook to Delta and Coca-Cola work hand-in-hand with the president/ruling party to suppress criticism and punish the ruling party's enemies?

Answer: FASCISM! "Democrats are the REAL fascists!"

Mock the line all you want; it's true. The system being set up by Joe Biden and the Democratic Party is the literal dictionary definition of fascism, shorn of its triggering elements and made safe for the mulch-brained masses.

Recently re-watched THE MATRIX movies. I'm of the opinion that the first one is massively overrated and not that good. I still think it's overrated, but the movies aren't that bad. Yeah, I said movies. RELOADED and REVOLUTIONS really aren't as bad as the fanboys say. I can't hate RELOADED or REVOLUTIONS because all the flaws in them were also present in the first MATRIX. Defending THE MATRIX and hating the sequels is like defending REVENGE OF THE SITH and hating the first two Star Wars prequels. It was obvious where this dogshit was going.

Too little, too late. Corporate chains (who dominate the economy even more thanks to small business being wiped out) will still make people wear masks and people have been conditioned to wear them of their own free will thanks to a year of propaganda. It's over. Humanity lost. Decades ago, there was an experiment involving monkeys in a cage with a bunch of bananas at the top of the ladder. If a monkey tried to get the bananas, all the monkeys would be blasted with a fire hose. After a few times getting hosed down, the monkeys got the hint and gave up.

I love Mexico. Can't believe I wasted four years of my life in Europe when Latin America was just next door.

All the dweebs who fantasize about BASED HUNGARY or BASED POLAND or BASED RUSSIA, you should reconsider and head down south. "B-B-BUT IT'S DANGEROUS!"

You're an American living off an American salary, so you can afford to live with rich Mexicans, take taxis, and have an apartment with a doorman.

The dangerous parts of Mexico have nothing going for them anyway, same as the dangerous parts of the U.S.

Good thread. A $15 minimum wage will cause the already high unemployment rate to explode. Moreover, this unemployment increase will be concentrated among the sector of the population that is already ill-suited to learning new skills, basically creating an economic dalit class. I used to work with unemployed factory workers in their fifties and sixties. Factory packed up and moved to Mexico and China, taking their jobs and pensions. The Labor Department tried to "retrain" them by running workshops on how to use email and MS Word to create resumes.

Anyone who talks about forming a right-wing third party to replace the GOP is terminally delusional.

Not ONCE in American history has a third party replaced a major party. It has literally never happened. You idiots certainly aren't going to pull it off. Our current two-party structure dates back to the 1850's, when the Republican Party was founded.

People think the Republicans were a third party when they were founded. They were not. They were a major party from day one since they were founded by former Whigs.

Translation of the peace terms signed by Pashinyan. Armenian forces will cede control of Nagorno-Karabakh to Azerbaijan, which will be occupied by Russian peacekeeping forces. The Azeri-Armenian border will be opened for transportation.

mentioning Full Throttle earlier got me to thinking how much I don't like most energy drinks

all of them taste like Red Bull, aka they taste like cough medicine mixed with horse urine, and Full Throttle is the only stateside brand I like because it actually tastes good there used to be an energy drink called SoBe No Fear that was the absolute best, but it was discontinued a decade ago

it was briefly revived in 2012 (I remember jumping for joy at seeing it in convenience stores in Washington and Oregon), then disappeared again

Reminder that in the original color revolution (the 2000 Bulldozer Revolution in Serbia), Slobodan Milošević would have almost certainly won reelection had it not been for an army of NGO-trained rioters forcing him out of power. Image Milošević's primary opponent did not win a majority in the first round of the presidential election. Albanians and Montenegrins, who were opposed to Milošević, boycotted the vote, and the runners-up were from right-wing parties who would have backed Milošević in the runoff.

A problem with the proposed plan to have GOP state legislatures discount the popular vote and appoint GOP electors is that Congress has to approve the electoral vote count in a joint session. Democrats, being in control of the House, would have the numbers to reject the electors. I presume at that point, it would move to a contingent election. Another problem there: a majority (26) of state House delegations are needed to elect a president. Republicans have only 25, Democrats 24, and one delegation (Pennsylvania) is split.

In 2018 in Hungary, Viktor Orbán's Fidesz party won their third consecutive election, taking 133 seats out of 199 total. The West decreed that the election was "free but not fair" on the basis that opposition parties were denied equal media coverage. The reality is that the opposition had plenty of opportunities to engage the public. It's just that outside of Budapest, nobody cared. You can't make money running a pro-LGBT, Europhile, pro-immigrant news outlet in rural Hungary for same reason you can't in rural America.
