It's happening!

A lot happened at Tesla this morning, including Elon sending emails to everyone at 2AM (PST) and subsequently varying teams throughout the company receiving further correspondence about the road ahead.

Buckle up, as we're discussing a lot below!Image First, let's talk about Full Self-Driving!

This morning, Elon communicated his interest in making Full Self-Driving V12.3.1 immediately available to customers, even offering a short test ride before delivery.

There are a couple of temporary roadblocks to this, which you'll be happy to know are being rectified in April.

The first concern is factory builds. When you first take delivery of a Tesla, the vehicle remains on a software version referred to as a "factory build", enabling Tesla to collect additional telemetry about recently introduced components and ensure the delivery experience is smooth and predictable.

Under normal circumstances, new vehicles remain on these factory builds for 3-8 weeks before moving to the production branch with everyone else.

All recent factory builds continue to include Full Self-Driving (Beta) V11.4.9, so Tesla must prepare V12.3.1 (or newer) for inclusion in factory builds. As you'll learn in this thread, this is already underway!

Next, Tesla must resolve camera calibration. Typically, you must drive your vehicle for 50-100 miles before Autopilot or Full Self-Driving (Beta) becomes available. This presents a challenge if Tesla intends to take customers on test rides before delivery.

Thankfully, Tesla has already been prototyping a solution over the last two years. If implemented in time, it will allow vehicles to instantly have access without adding any extra miles to the odometer before deliveries.

Let's move on to our first exclusive news directly related to this.Image

This thread aims to reassure those with concerns and help answer your questions. Enjoy! Last week, Tesla officially unveiled the redesigned Model 3 in China, Australia, Japan, the Middle East, and Europe. In the days that followed, customers got to experience the new vehicles in person!

However, unexpectedly, North America was absent from the announcement!

Let's have a discussion about @Tesla software update, 2023.12.11! 💬

There needs to be some clarification regarding this update and its relevance to Full Self-Driving (Beta). We aim to provide an easily digestible thread and answer common questions we've seen recently. 🧵 On June 5th, 2023.12.11 was first detected, with only a few vehicles in the United States, Poland, and Germany receiving the update.

At this point, every vehicle owner shared that it was a production build, so we (and others) appropriately labeled it as "not Full Self-Driving."

Six months ago we shared that @Tesla had been secretly working on Full Self-Driving (Beta) outside of North America in an exclusive report.

Here’s what we’ve learned since then, new discoveries, employee stories, and more. 🧵 Last year, we weren’t permitted to share specifics of the countries currently legally testing FSD. Now we can share more details!

In addition to the United Kingdom, Tesla has hired and is actively testing FSD in Norway, Berlin/Germany, Australia, New Zealand, China, and more.

Introducing: the first appearance of Tesla's Full Self-Driving (Beta) in the United Kingdom, running on an internal build of single-stack.

For over a year now, Tesla has been testing their upcoming suite of autonomy features with the help of dozens of primarily secret employees. Under the role of ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) Engineer and Test Operator, the company has worked with employees to write and test thousands of specialized builds.

New hires often occurred outside of job listings, as we learned about more recently. 🤐

We were asked by a small group of Tesla employees to share the following, which is directed at Tesla-related publications and news outlets alike.

Due to issues experienced with Twitrer, we’ll be posting to this thread one tweet at a time. Thank you for your understanding. 🧵 Tesla actively monitors Twitter, Reddit, as well as popular publications to see if and when information that is often deemed as NDA-breaking is shared with the public. This can be videos/photos from inside the factory, service documents, or even early access software leaks.

For an explanation of our prediction, please continue reading this thread. 1. Tesla has historically released major updates on Tuesdays, which gives ample time for fleet testing in addition to giving the autopilot/development team time to get bug fixes underway for the following week(s).
