i'm a poké-poser i've only played the switch games and a bootleg pokemon gold from malaysia the bootleg was made before the games were translated to english, so the translation was shoddy and all the pokemon names were abbreviated to five characters. my starter CHIKO evolved into BEIRI and finally MEGAN

speaking of useless #pokemon trivia, here's a graph comparing base stat totals to base exp yield A dot plot comparing base stat totals of pokemon (x axis) to The high outliers are the chansey and audino lines (who are big ol' bundles of EXP), and waaay to the top right is the giant space hand you fight at the end of Sword and Shield.

very cool and good that I'm trying to find sources for a technical argument and everytime I google now it just pulls up a bunch of articles like "Should You Use X? X is a feature implemented. X is used by some companies. In conclusion, you may or not want to use X." The google engineers are trying to fix this but every time they look up "how to fix SEO Spam" they get articles like "should I fix SEO Spam? Spam is a popular dish in Hawaii. Seo Yuzuki is a character in the anime Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun"

i think vercel should just poach the rest of the react team bc i think it'll be hilarious i remember i used to care a lot more about this, like "the react team is cool but it sucks they work for facebook! what if we moved react to a Foundation?" and like, nah all you need is a VC-backed startup whose revenue model is intrinsically tied to the libray they put out

There's a new breed of React (anti-)pattern I've decided I hate, where you use a hook that returns fifty different props that you have to spread across a bunch of different HTML tags. They give you a bunch of parts that you have to assemble yourself. I call it the IKEA pattern. Ironically it's in component libraries that tout themselves as "accessible" lol

Ooh let's talk about React for a bit. Preface: pretty much all my projects use React, I've contracted for the React and React Native teams and have spoken at React conferences. I'm friends with many current and former members of the React team.

It seems that Gatsby has made a response to the issues I and others have raised. Unfortunately it seems to be written in a strange language called "PR-ese". As a service to the Gatsby Community, I will offer my services to translate it to English.

Oh hey, the new site is up, which means it's time for A Thread about Gatsby (1/??) Starting around August 2019, I was hired as a contractor to work on setting up translations of the Gatsby docs. In June 2020, my contract was cancelled, the translations still not integrated into the site, and the project postponed indefinitely (2/??)

Given all the talk on "don't talk about the negativity in tech!", and with React Conf around the corner, let's talk about my experience as a speaker at React Rally a few months back, as a queer person of color, at the heart of what would be now known as ReactGate. I'd heard a lot of good things about React Rally from friends. "It's so open and inclusive!" they'd say.

So I was excited. I was talking about something very React-specific (localization of the React documentation) and I was happy for the opportunity to meet up with friends!
