I spent some time thinking with @Beth_driscoll & @ClaireSquires' book on the Frankfurt Book Fair & Bestseller Business, in order to review it for @JCASC1. If you do empirical qualitative research on cultural industries, you probably should too.

The book's as much a methodological experiment as a study of a trade fair. It should prompt researchers to think carefully about how to sensitise the tools and techniques of inquiry for the world they're studying.
So #musicleeds is finishing up. Was in Leeds yesterday, shame I couldn’t stay. Looks like a great day which, in the shadow of the ECoC withdrawal debacle, was a real achievement to make happen.
But with “Music Cities” again being discussed, I want to sound a note of caution. To make the case for some critical reflection. And perhaps to read some of the findings from the last two decades (plus!) of “Creative City” experiences.
