People obsessing over a character wearing a hijab on a #StarTrek show b/c the franchise is generally "post-religion" philosophically (for humans) are showing their a--, IMO.

Religions are cultural as well as philosophical, and "culture stuff" is ALL post-TNG humans DO...
🧡 ...one of the things even early TNG gets right not-totally-on-purpose is how f---ing INSUFFERABLY self-possessed post-scarcity leisure time would make EVERYONE. Every character in #StarTrek cannot WAIT to show you their collection of trinkets that defines them...

This is what culture-analysis misses about Boomers vs Gen-X/Y/Z: "Woodstock Generation" 100% COMMITTED to the idea that protesting 'Nam, smoking weed and being "cool with Dr. King" was the Fountain of Youth: They were PERMANENTLY 18-21 and "Being Young" was *theirs* forever. So not only are they not obliged to retire, or to leave a good world behind, or "be the adults" to ANY degree other than the 'vice' benefits of adulthood; they expect ACTUAL youth culture to both remain in place and venerate them as its arbiters.

You're right, cupcake. They aren't "the majority."

But people who LIKE THEM - or, at least, DON'T have some kind of diaper-filling tantrum over their existence - ARE the majority.

The sell isn't: "We're with the gays," its "We're NOT WITH The Bad Guys" - aka YOU, cupcake πŸ˜‰ Have you not figured that out yet, MAGA ghouls?

*everyone* who actually matters HATES you. That's why your kids don't call or visit, why there's "nothing" for you to watch, why all your stuff is junk, why you have to move to closed-off parts of Florida or w/e and wait to die...

@BossierNoah @pk_kenzie @spencermuttbear Netflix wanted to be YouTube - a uniplatform so all-encompassing eventually everyone else - even bigger competitors - gives up TRYING to make their own and just pays to put their content on it. So they HUGELY overspent (for real, they're likely in COLOSSAL debt off-book)...
1/2
@BossierNoah @pk_kenzie @spencermuttbear ...on making AS MUCH content in EVERY format with BIG names in HUGE volume all at once trying to flood the zone and overwhelm the market before there even WAS a market; betting that when every other company then couldn't find room and "EVERYTHING would just go to Netflix."

This is 100% the way to respond to Rotten Tomatoes, movie critics and fans - and I say that as a fan and as a working film critic whose reviews are on Rotten Tomatoes (which is an evil entity that has hurt the industry MASSIVELY but also no-ethical-consumption etc etc) You CANNOT let reception rewrite your work for you. "Listening to the audience" is one thing (i.e. "Did the movie bomb?" "What the word on the street?") but drastic panicky course-correction is how you get Whedon's "JUSTICE LEAGUE"

Something to keep in mind when you watch these in 2023: You're VERY often looking at a single, MAYBE 2-3 camera shoot at most; and every shot is an individual setup, specifically planned and likely storyboarded or at least shotlisted - not like a "setpiece" in a Hollywood shoot.. ...where a big multi-part battle/action sequence like this might have a few full minutes of choreography/stuntwork set up like a "stunt show" you'd see in a theme park with multiple cameras all shooting different angles of coverage: HK/Taiwan action (especially 1/1 fights)...

"Biology" doesn't come stamped with names values, though - nothing does. The definitions are a human invention* and we can adjust them

*(unless you still think they were assigned by invisible men in the clouds, in which case why are you pretending to care about science?) This is one of those things NOBODY - not even most smart people - thinks about until they have to, but ALL of our ways of categorizing things in nature are just based on making "keeping track of things" easy and effective within whatever system we have at a given time...

While acknowledging media bosses not understanding causality vs correlation is a plague, is it wrong to hope the inevitable Monday QB'ing re: #Eternals (apparently?) being a hit "despite" reviews could AT LEAST lead to some actual introspection re: perspective/representation? i.e. OBVIOUSLY, just as Virginia doesn't actually "mean anything" about national politics other than nobody likes Terry McAuliffe and too many people still enjoy racism; *NO,* #Eternals still making money doesn't "prove that critics were wrong" (or had "bad motives")...

In spite of your feed indicating that this isn't necessarily worthy of a response, a teaching opportunity is a teaching opportunity:

1. I'd say there's an all important difference between BEING (or forging) the "cookie cutter" and being the cookies everyone else cuts using it... 2. I would disagree with this characterization of many of these films and my appraisals thereof, but that's subjectivity about subjectivity so... whatever πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

3. What I "prefer" isn't necessarily the type of film in this case, but the state of business where they are encouraged

So at some point did all the other Avengers and friends just agree that they weren't going to ever ask Bucky which other famous historical assassinations between the late-1940s and 2016 were "really him;" or did they and they just ALL weren't so it's good? Right but like even if they "understand" he still KNOWS the answer to all the "unsolved" ones; yeah? So unless there's a standing "rule" about it EVERY long-ish trip for Bucky must just be endless:

"..so JFK?"

"No."

"But HOFFA, that HAD to be y-"

"No."

Always watch the use of qualifiers like "complicated by" or "a desire to" in business-press answers, especially from movie and TV executives for whom "this was mentioned in a meeting by someone" is worth priceless face-saving P.R. cover day to day. WB has been (and continues to be!) using "We ARENT forcing filmmakers to over-coordinated because Multiverse!" as a DC projects' selling point vs Disney/Marvel; they're doing two Batman and multiple Joker actors, etc - two Darkseids (one from a canceled directors cut)...

ALSO: Warner Bros - whichever exec is REALLY into scenes - regardless of genre! - where people go "something something every civilization! something legends something myths are real!" while gesturing at 'cave paintings' of cereal mascots or whatever? Let someone else give notes Because if you show the #GodzillaVsKong , #MortalKombat and #ZackSnydersJusticeLeague trailers all in a row on TV it just looks and sounds like the same movie now.

Hm.

I feel like the key people are missing in the #SpiderMan3 stuff is they confirmed Doctor Strange before anyone else. That means you could conceivably start the story off in any kind of weird/off status quo because eventually a wizard is going to show up and say... ..."yeah actually you're in the wrong reality because of weird shit that happened in my movie and that TV show. See, here's two other you's - this kind of took some looking."

New Prediction: They'll do the "Everyone loves Spider-Man!"-verse HOUSE OF M for the fake one 😏

β€œ[Warner Bros] had a decades-long legacy as being known as the most talent-friendly studio. Now [they've] gone from that to a studio that in starburst colors lit up a sign that says, 'We don’t give a fuck about talent.’” - Anonymous

OUCH. 😣 hollywoodreporter.com/amp/news/chris… The most eyebrow-raising detail in the THR piece is the implication that WB was partly motivated by seeing their 2021 slate as a money-loser even without the pandemic, as it's hard to argue with: Apart from WW84, they had a lot of movie *I* was excited for... but iffy prospects?
