Yes I have my own desires. But I don't choose them.

Nor do I choose which thoughts enter my brain or how I feel about those thoughts.

We think. We act. We experience consequences. We feel things inside: our judgment and conscience. Those never go away.

We learn (we hope).

But even when we learn, we don't consciously rearrange our brain so "now I learned it!" No, it just happens.

Spent 39 years thinking "Of course we have free will" and while I still don't buy determinism, now the idea of choice breaks down when I look at it.

To @BenjaminABoyce and @DisaffectedPod - re: your awesome convo:

In my opinion, the moral imperative that the woke are following is this:

the freedom to be and do whatever one wants (and freedom from limitation) is our deserved point of life. One then sees all our inner human turmoil and anxiety as evidence of cosmic injustice because there's something we want that we're unfairly not getting.

This is how I trick myself into flow state.

I wrote this as a comment on an Alan Watts YouTube and people seemed to like it. Let me know what you think:

***
The secret can be found by looking at the characteristics of your life so far (and Watts has said this).

(1/25) Look at your own mind. Look how it works.

Bam! There's a thought.

Bam! Another thought, perhaps contradicting the first.

And feelings (sensations in the body) that arise with those thoughts.

The secret: you've chosen precisely zero of any of those things.
