Let’s break it down line by line: 1/ “As every major culture returned to its roots…”
→ Nominalization + mythic metaphor
“Returned” to what? “Roots” of what? No subject, no action, just the appearance of inevitability.
Cultures don’t move. People in power push them. This line pretends it’s organic.

Suppose @GavinNewsom, @NBerggruen, and the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy wanted to seize a lot of land through eminent domain – and reallocate it – to "save nature" from evil humans and use it as the basis for a "Smart City."
